I'm about to start an English degree at uni, and want to broaden my horizons before I start.
I'm looking for a blend of fantasy but in the real world? Like not spells and witchcraft BS, just bizarre tales in a city like setting. Any suggestions?

I havent read it, but 'The City & the City' by China Miéville seems to fit your description well and was well rated in the press.
Haruki Murakami is great, not overrated IMO. Most of his books might fit your bill.say_whut wrote:Just thought I'd bump this as opposed to making another thread.

The Machine Stops by E. M Forster. It's a short story about the future, it's really good.say_whut wrote:Nice, any book of his in particular I should read first?mohan wrote:Haruki Murakami is great, not overrated IMO.
