I grew up listening to Pantera, they were never labelled as a thrash band sorry

well I grew up listening to Pantera too and I as I said Ive seen them called thrash many, many, many, many times. For an example if you put in your 'Pantera 3: Watch It Go' video and fast forward to 55mins youll find Vinnie Paul and Phil looking at a copy of 'Modern Drummer' magazine with Vinnie on the cover, they flick to the article and Vinnie reads the headline "Vinnie Paul, the king of thrash metal" to which Phil replies "See, they know what theyre talking about". Am I missing something here? Do you have an extended copy of Pantera 3 where they show the full clip of them baulking at the label and having a long and heated debate about how Vinnie isnt a 'thrash metal' drummer but a 'post thrash groove pre nu funk metal' drummer? If It were as easy for me to dig through 10 years of kerang and metalhammer Id probably be able to pull you out at least 50 articles that talk in the same way.

This is a pointless debate because you may not consider them thrash, I dont care, but neither of those things change the fact that they were openly described as thrash again and again and again by the music press in both america and the uk and I know this is a fact, and not once have I ever read one of them contradict that label in any way. I havent watched Pantera 3 in a long, long, long time, it may be as long as 10 years since Ive watched it yet I remembered that exact quote and roughly where to skip to in the video to see it, does that sound like someone whos confused with a bad memory?

Ive got no real desire to carry on this debate, Ive given you an example of an article written in the 90s along with the bands reaction which was 'they know what theyre talking about'. If you still disagree then what more can I say?

I think they tweeted the artists too for anyone interested, Im pretty sure Rusko has nothing to do with it. It was like Datsik, Excision etc.

The comments on that article are good for a quick giggle:

mcluhan's philsophy was based around the idea of technology being an extension of human physiology. a cup is the extension of a hand. a car is an extension of a foot. in videodrome, o'blivion says the television screen is the retina of the mind's eye. etc.

Ray Luzier talked to Download Festival about how he was worried about being replaced by a drum machine when the band moved towards dub step, "Normally it would drive me crazy because I think drum machines are soulless." the drummer explained before adding that Jonathan Davis had then reassured him, "'No, we're going to experiment with triggers,' which I've never done before. So we actually triggered the sounds Skillets made with my kit -- I'm actually playing them live. I was excited by that." http://www.licklibrary.com/news/2011/6/ ... udio_album

Korn's first album is in my top ten. Fieldy's unique bass slapping shit, Monkey and Head playing off eachothers guitar ambienty shit, and then-not-a-fat-tnuc jonathan's waily emo vocal shit. It was dark as fuck, man.

From there it went downhill. Life is Peachy has a few good ones, but most of the other albums, aside from the odd tune (like It's On) were poo and full of filler rubbish. After Take a look In The mirror, i gave up completely.

The funny thing is, this "dubstep" song was previewed by The band on april 1st. I thought it was a fool's day joke and then i learnt The truth. There's no way back for this band now.

Tl;dr - fuck music.
