(IMO) Toasty Boy pisses on everyone. The ideas in his tunes and the PRODUCTION is only matched by Search & Destroy. (IMO).

I think there is an issue in dubstep with production values. There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of well produced tunes. Amazing ideas and vibes but a lot of the tunes sound like they need putting through an analogue desk and given some warmth and grit.

Take Hatcha's Kiss FM show last night. IMO he played 2 "well produced" tracks - the one at around 43 mins in which was a kinda old vocal dub tune refix that rocked. MC God Gift was getting really into it and started screaming at Hatcha for the reload. The other was a spacey, Toasty Boy sounding track at around 51.30 mins.

The rest sounded a bit thin and kinda lost the vibe a bit.

Some of these "top" producers need to stop doing everything in Reason and invest in some analogue kit. Even a little Mackie analogue Desk would help.

Don't flame me as I LOVE my dubstep and the DMZ 2nd birthday was in my top 3 nights of ALL TIME. I'm just interested what other producers think.

who are you talking about though?

i hear some stuff which sounds thin, but i would say that most of the top producers have got a pretty full sound.

i also think that one of the things which has made certain aspects of dubstep what it is is the budget equipment, the plastic sounds. wouldnt it be boring if everyone had the same aesthetic?

and i can see that thats something that everyone using the same programme can become, but i dont feel that thats fair as a reflection of the genre as a whole.

he has some great tunes like that 808 tune, kalawanji, kalawanji 2, some ironsoul tunes, etc...
but most of the wobblers he makes sound a bit samey to me...

I think the "budget" sound was cool when dubstep started to happen way back in 2002 but not now. I don't really feel in a position to start calling out "budget" producers. I'd rather just name to who I rate.

Recent quality productions that spring to mind are that 50, 000 watts tune, Elemental - Soul Fire and the new Toasty Boy - (On something?).

Also have to give a cheeky nod to that Scotty tune (Kromestar?). Makes me smile.

i think theres a lot of high quality production in dubstep

i agree some quarters are lacking in both ideas and production, but i dont see that element as dominant, at all

and i think its important for tunes with ideas to be allowed exposure regardless of the producer having the cash for outboard kit, or the inclination to learn Logic

he writes some bangers but he generally doesnt get me as hyped as say another 5 or 6 producrs

i could at least name 20 producers who are better!

to me krome is top 5 producer

personally, easily the most adaptive in any style of music.

hear this a lot of the colder/digital sounding tracks arent moving me so much any more, tho it is a sound that can be used wickedly (eg early skream)
i think kalawanji has that same raw/heavy/analog quality as the tracks you just mentioned n its an absolute anthem. think i voted for it as best tune in last yrs poll. but nothing else ive heard from kromestar has rlly been on that level...

all i wanna know is why he doesn't start his own label for his output instead of releasing everything on different "labels", whites, etc...

man puts out so much stuff i find it a bit hard to keep up!

Man also has a problem with too damn many tracks per vinyl
