i saw someone earlier (would go and find out who, but on the verge of pissing myself, so typing very fast) said post limit before entering in the dubs section.

not gonna lie this could be a very very good idea.
wouldn't get all the 1-5 post counts posting in there LFO's.

25 post minimum. :d

Again, nice idea but in practice you'd get a load of people posting "Nice!" or "I agree!" style posts just to ramp their count up with inane babble.
A chin scratcher this thread is.

as i said in my first post here, sub sections for different genres.
if filth gets put in deep, just gets moved.

that would make a big difference full stop.

But the issue is that the volume of new posts, not to mention new boards, would take a massive effort to moderate. You'd have an additional 8/9 boards (as per your suggestion for sub genres) to look after pretty much 24/7.

Get Dubway to raise the posting character restriction/limit to 8 or 10 (you need 8 characters to post a reply), and pray to God the noobs don't figure out the white space trick :W:

And then you'd just have people cutting and pasting a 10 character minimum response.

Also, drilling down and adding addendums to the site coding with regards to posts? Not an option we'd want to pursue really. Overcomplicated.

There are a lot of ways around it, to be fair, which is why I don't think it would be really practical. But it would trip up the utter beginners.

Post limitation isn't part of site coding, it's a feature you can implement in the phpBB administrator panel. It takes literally 3 seconds, haha. All you have to do is enable it and type in the character limit. But, if we're not willing to change any of the implementable features of this site, there isn't much changes we could really implement then (structure and mainframe wise) You'd have to rely on the intelligence of the members and the guidance and leadership of the staff. Just keep order and people in line without any cosmetic changes, probably sounds easier on paper, wouldn't know. Personally, I think it's fine anyway.

Fair enough re; the feature change, my mistake.

I've mentioned the sub forums, fair enough. But I think applying post limitiation isn't really a valid option. We don't want to place restrictions on what people post when they post, not to that extent IMO.

Fair enough. You know this place best, I've only been here for a few months. I do agree, changing the whole system of the forum to benefit one board would be quite limiting.

Bummer. So there's no chance of the DSF becoming a restricted dictatorship lead by the vindictive duo of Dub and Wub?

I've found it incredibly hard to keep consistency in the dubs forum, there are simply a group of posters who want nothing but listen/facebook likes and alike with no intention of contributing to the community nor even reading the threads. It didn't help the initial decision of tagging threads was over ruled from up high before it got a chance to get to it's feet.

As always, I am of the same mindset that dividing the traffic by separating by genre the dubs forum is a mistake. I think moving the released music out of there was a great idea and for the most part worked.

I agree that splitting into sub genres will not work.
You`ll get the same issue just broken up into separate forums.

tbh i dont use the dubs forum for feedback etc and i agree i think that should be kept to the stickies in here,
. i use dubs to discover great new music by people i havent heard of and oer past year and a bit ive discovered a lot, whilst trying to help those asking for feedback but nowadays good tunes disappear after about one day and are completely submerged in lfo wobblers everywhere.

I reckon sub genres are the way to go, even if its only filth and everything else, maybe house aswell

Each DSF member gets to post 10 (or lessi really dont know a good number, 5?) tracks a month in the dubs forum, narrowing it down to people only posting there best tracks.

flaws?

Limiting the number of tracks you can post won't magically improve the quality/genre/attitude/whatever of the people posting them.

Not to mention the fact that I don't even know how you'd enforce this.

I think sub genres would be a good idea. As far as I see it, no one else has given feedback and ideas on how to fix the problem, and while sub genres doesn't fix the problem, it doesn't really make it worse. It just cuts the problem up into little bits, which makes it easier to fix, plus it's a decent starting point. It just changes the focal point of the whole board. I just browsed around and a lot of work doesn't seem to receive enough, or any, feedback. Sub genres would producers reach their desired audience, without competing with other, popular genres. So, "I'm sure in the mood for some 100 BPM, let me go to that sub genre forum", instead of rummaging through the entire board.

I don't see how it's a bad thing.

A new thread limit in the subforum is an interesting idea, but I personally don't see it working. Although it would encourage people to post their best tracks, it would also limit the potential of hearing some great tracks.

I want to push a thread rating system, stars or pos/neg whatever, then when the stadard wobble bland tracks form people who don't contribute anything get visibly negged in front of others, it might make them think about their approach?

Personally I think a pos/neg system would do the board good in general. Bad news for Chad though.

Just a standard add on for the board. think Dubway knows about it already, I mailed him a while back, but he was balls deep in his masters.

How about one thread per person? As in you post all work that you want feedback on in one thread, new track shouldn't mean a new thread anyway? That's how they do it in Animation and Art forums.

It will also be easier to keep track on your own feedback, and it's more personal.

This isn't some sort of limitation or implementable code, it's just a rule they should abide by. I think it would be fairly easy to enforce, if it does get out of hand.

This works in practice but you`ll need to have a certain number of posts to give pos/neg points.
Otherwise it`s a 1 post issue all over again.
Getting all your friends to give you positive and other people negative.
