I have never seen one and only heard about them in that dickhead song, what is the point in a bike that doesn't brake???
I mean they must have their advantages cos couriers use them, maybe it's so they can cycle backwards through a mad traffic bit or something
I know nothing someone tell me
lighter, more efficient use of energy to move since there isn't a bunch of mechanics to go through, less maintenance
that being said don't own one, but would like one as they're great for city travel, and keep my schwinn for long distance, and traditional mt bike for trails
They are also fast as fuck!

they're only inefficient if you have a shitty gear put on it
i used to ride bmx
THATS fucking inefficient
fixed gear road bikes, not inefficient, build it for your environment and regular routes and its sweet
same as people riding shitty quality full sus mountain bikes on the pavement with fucking 3" off-road tyres on them
use things for what they're meant for and they work well, if you just get it wrong then you get it wrong, end of
as i said, nothin wrong with the bikes, poser's is another thing, even they dont bother me too much
edit: just watched the vid, dont know who to hate more

They are more inefficient. Even on reletively flat roads you'll still be changing gears a bit on a regular road bike to keep the same cadance. If you can't do that, it's so more tiring. The route I cycle every day is through a city, and pretty flat, but getting there is slightly more uphill than getting back - however this means I still ride about 5 gears or so up going back. I've tried only using one gear and I end up having to peedle so fast. The extra weight you don't have on the fixed speed really doesn't make a huge amount of difference - and is completely negligable since they tend to ride steel frame bikes a lot of the time.
Having said that, if you're just doing city rides/commuting, you probably arn't massively bothered about efficiency that much and things like simplicity, ease of maintainence and comfort will be more important, so I do see how they will apeal to some. I just know I would struggle to live without gears.
As for the video, well that's just taking the piss out of both groups really

what happens if your about to hit something? Do you just die? I'm honestly not taking the piss, I just have no clue how these things work

if you're about to hit something you lurch your head over the front wheel and jam a foot into the front fork, dont need brakes to stop quickly and dismount your bike.

that sounds well unsafe like, don't like the idea of breaking an ankle just to stop a bike

I'd be more scared of being pulled into the bit between the wheel and the forks and spinning round and round while my bike carries on going. Or does that only happen in cartoons?

so how the fuck do you stop the bike???? this whole bike with no brakes thing is intense
I can see why bmx's don't have brakes because you don't actually use them for riding around on

I want a chopper bike. You just automatically feel like a don on one of those bikes. They are also mega comfy.

if you dont have brakes on a bmx you stick your foot on the back wheel, just like jamming on a brake, its easy, you stop as long as it aint raining (found this out the hard way in leeds going down a massive hill, had to bail from my bike as it skidded into a very busy main road, but im a G so i didn't die)
fixies have brakes where you pedal backwards

Haha, I've been avoiding this thread for most of the day because I assumed it'd be pages full of Bright Maroon posting incomprehensible and NSFW rubbish, but it seems the Ninjas have hijacked it into an almost sensible discussion.
Well done!
(and BMX > Other Bikes ... I'm about to get a new one, I think... yes, I'm turning 30 next year, I've still got 9 months to enjoy it )
