Agreed but I wouldn't agree with the age thing. I'm 19 and got into electronic music because of my brother being hugely into jungle whilst I was growing up. It's got nothing to do with age. Dubstep was created to be intelligent. I see plenty of 25+ raving about "brostep". It's just a dumbed down watered down version of the real thing.
it's got everything to do with age. obviously there's exceptions, but for the most part, it's a bunch of teens and college kids who are just caught up in this gimmick of FILTHY LOL... every generation has its stupid shit that gets really popular, the teens of this generation have justin bieber and brostep....

If theres exceptions then it doesn't have everything to do with age does it. I've studied music and played instruments for over 10 years of my life. Music can be a trendsetter for any age group, it's all down to the individuals mind. Just because somebody has more digits behind their name doesn't mean they're any more mature/intelligent or necessarily listen to different music.

Most times being older means being more mature... but yeah, stupid pricks will be stupid pricks, regardless of age. I've seen 30 y.o. muscle assholes moshing to brostep, 40+ y.o. drunk neonazi bikers picking fights with kids at hardcore shows... so yeah, age isn't all that important when it comes to music.
But young people are the ones that go to raves the most, they have more contact with the scenes and it's towards them that brostep is marketed.

The raves that me and friends attend and play at are always crowded with teens. However the sound pushed is always oldschool. All vinyl mixes including dark garage old jungle etc. You'd be surprised how many youngsters love the older sound!

I'm just sayin that we have the most exposure to it, be it brostep or otherwise. And artists like Magnetic Man and Nero are played on MTV, actually I saw Nero's "Promises" #1 on some mtv rock chart. I don't see Mala being on there.

Admittedly the exposure is aimed at the younger. However the internet is mainly what spreads sounds nowadays. With shows like GetDarker and nights like DMZ more of the younger crowd are getting into the original sound. I wouldn't say it's raves pushing the brostep sound. It's clubs really.

Go out and ask people if they heard about Skrillex. Then ask them about DMZ.
Of course there are promoters for both scenes, but largely, it's skrillex, nero, borgore and the like that have the most fans.

Yeah, exactly. So many different takes on it, and it all sounded good. Nowadays it's still diverse, but I think there's a lot of bandwagoning going on. Somebody comes with a new approach, it's all hyped up for about a month, then it's something else, and so on.

I hear you man, atmosphere is the first thing I look for. There is some ok party music, I guess, but it gets old fast if it doesn't have any depth to it. I like some magnetic man, a few nero tunes and so on, but it's nothing i can play tens of times, you know? Take Vex'd for instance, I can listen to Degenerate hours on end and always find something new to it everytime.

I do find one thing interesting: the fact that it's not the brostep producers signed to majors, with the exception of Skrillex.
Magnetic Man and Katy B are on Columbia (+ remixes from the likes of Royal-T, Caspa, Zinc, Girl Unit etc), Nero & 16bit on MTA/Mercury. Not to mention all the stuff on Island Records UK, Distance being signed, plus people like Breakage, Photek, Mensah, Disclosure, MJ Cole, Nu:Tone and Roni Size handling production and remixes for the likes of Jess Mills and Josh Osho.
