The NHS is horribly over-beaurocratic and inefficient, bogged down in multiple management layers - docs and nurse are underpaid and a lot of the really good ones end up going elsewhere unfortunately. Dental care is no longer completely free and nor is basic eyecare. And let's not forget the power that drug companies wield as well - and how they can influence what doctors do with erm, incentives. Still there are huge amounts of good people working in public healthcare and I suppose they do their best with the system we have.
I could walk into a hospital in the UK right now and be seen within an hour? Here, it's about 5 hours.

I was assaulted almost a year ago and was in a very bad state of disrepair... even almost dead, it took about 6 months to fill out all of the paperwork. I am STILL trying to figure out how to pay for the therapy that I am still in the process of doing.

This shit happens every day here. I could literally walk into a hospital in Europe and be seen.

I never thought that I'd be begging France to Liberate us from King George again... but fuck me, man...

In the UK, if I go to the hospital, not only do I NOT have to pay for it but you will fucking actually PAY ME for having gone to the hospital?

They'll validate my parking... and pay my train fare back to my flat?
yup, ever been to a hospital in the UK mr moore?

By the sounds of your condition and the expense of it, I'd suggest emigrating if it meant you could get free health care.

Seems clear to me that "terrorists" might be getting good health treatment, but then given what's being inflicted on them I think they probably need it. There seem to have been plenty of innocents treated incredibly badly, traumatized and with new mental health issues that they didn't have beforehand.
Hmm....

I saw the movie too. I don't think Michael Moore expects anyone to take him seriously word for word. His documentaries are more like very opinionated films that just get a point across....strongly. I mean in the film he makes the Canadian healthcare system sound like it is perfect, but it's not, there are problems with it as well. Yes, there are long waiting lists sometimes, but at least we never actually see a bill if we have to go to a hospital or see a doctor.

I thought it was a great film, even if he does have a hankering to make issues very black and white, the idea of what he is saying is very valid and true.

You don't receive any welfare benefits for a year, unless you're seeking asylum in which case I think you either get vouchers to use in supermarkets, or they can put you in one of our lovely UK holding facilities

I'd heard they'd been slating Bush lately (not a move to the left, just behind different variations of Republicans)

Or popular dislike of the president could discredit any chances of the Republicans winning the next election. If there's schizm now and they distance themselves from the current president they stand more chance of regaining the majority vote.

Would have thought it fairly obvious to most that there's some pretty smart, if amoral minds behind the throne.

Ditto. This hits close to home and it makes me too angry to respond to this thread properly.
