i have neither....but they could do many more practical things such as accepting memory sticks have better features for entertaining people etc

personally i would like one but cant justify the expense right now...i dont see the comparison with a coat...i know some have like non tearing material n shit but thats more for people doing sports in them really.....they dont have like features as a rule coats unless theyre self drying or give you a blowjob :D

I don't see the similarity between CDJs and coats
Coats have been around for about 4000 years doing their thing
CDJs are a relatively new invention under constant development and improvement

Haven't seen much of those stab-proof kevlar hoodies recently. I'd understand paying £300 on a jacket if it's going to save your life, but just to look marginally cooler, nahhh. Surely a £300 coat also goes out of fashion just as quickly as a £30 one? Or am I missing the point?

My coat I got for £2.50 from a charity shop
Its a woman's blazer but its so big its pretty much knee length on me
Gold lining, dun kno
Sewed all kinds of interesting material onto it for pockets too
All about the nifty inside and secret pockets
My name is Dom and I like making ambientish music and drinking tea. Nice to meet you.

my point is that you pay for what you get.

fashion is an art form. you're paying for the design, the quality of materials and build.

Wanting to look good is a perfectly natural human function, confident dress is a big part of being a social animal that spends so much of its time eyeing each other up and especially if we're on the prowl for mates. I've had the odd flurry of clothes buying since becoming single and realising I had nothing suitable for making a half decent impression over dinner rather than at a rave... you've gotta channel your inner peacock at least once in a while; girls do it all the fucking time, you can allow blokes the odd little flourish. But then, I have spent a good few years living with fashion students... I'm the 'scruffy' one around here.

The great male renunciation fucked us all royally. Men used to be more flamboyant than women, but we got all our flair beaten out of us by the drudgery of industrialisation and the business suit in the 19th century. Fucking Victorians.

Pop your fucking collar, gwa... your time!

or maybe just the prestige of owning the said item/brand :)

you get what you pay for in many things i agree...id love a pair or grado1000s or hd800s as ive no doubt theyre light years ahead of the kind of headphones i could afford and would allow me to enjoy music more at home, i just dont see how a coat does this for anything other than add something extra for someone that cares too much :P

and @magma so you need to spend loads of money to look good?

yo, you all need to chill on your moralising of a dude jus spendin a bit of wedge on fucking coat

look, if it was £300 on a pair of shoes that'd be out of date in 6months yeah, or a tee-shirt that has the same sell-by date, then yeah

but a smart coat for work, whats the problem, you spend £300 on a coat (which aint even that much to be truthful), its gona last for fucking years, not lose its quality, be made of good enough fabric and well enough to keep you more than warm during the coldest bits of winter, and look fucking cool at the same time

some proper tossy attitudes in this thread

Magma smashed it

Pistons just has some mad chip on his shoulder about spending money on clothes

and cant equate the 1000's he spent on vinyl in probably the last year as being the same

i'm just stating my view on it mate and what i would do no need to judge me for not wanting to splurge cash on clothes

and i dont think i could ever splash £300 on a coat so i guess i am poor

if that truly isnt a lot to spend on a coat....

how much is a lot then?

my records all perform a unique function as well as being very special to me, how exactly are they the same as spending more on something that performs the same function?

its called supporting the music i love...

anyway everyone do what you want i cant help it if i personally dont enjoy people highlighting how rich they are...

you HAVE got a chip on your shoulder about it, i dont care if its judging you or not, just like you comin in a thread and callin everyone a dickhead for thinkin about spending more money on clothes than you would.

dont be a martyr
Pistonsbeneath wrote:if that truly isnt a lot to spend on a coat....

a lot more than that, £300 is basically standard price for a leather jacket, classicly styled that will last a lifetime, my mums family used to own a factory making and tailoring Leather jackets, they were expensive yes, but we still have them in the house and the quality hasn't changed one bit, built to last.

You could probably get a tailored coat for £300. If you're going to spend that kind of cash, why not at least get a coat that's going to look/fit/feel exactly how you want it to?

did you read the op??

his question was regarding whether anyone knew what the size and fit would be, if he wasn't able to try it on first

jeez

my mate bought a North Face with his student loan, £250, had the coat for 4 years, wears it every winter, still rocks it, will still be rockin it in 4years time, an 4 years after that

problem??

My point is that you don't really get what you pay for.
Fashion can be art, but generally speaking fashion is business. You're paying for added value and 'cool' factor.
Same as Macbooks, £500 audiophile leads, holistic medicine, glasses without lenses, bottled water, etc - most of the time what you're paying for isn't tangible, its all in your head.

What planet are you on?! I'm on planet Cornwall, and here £300 is a week's wages. Nobody in their right mind would work for 5 days non-stop in order to get one item of clothing unless they're in a third world country

I did actually. I was just pointing out that if his concern was for the size and fit of that jacket then why didn't he simply get a tailored one in that style.

No need to jump on me for trying to be helpful...

im actually a relative of royalty and look down my nose on pedants and peasants such as yourself, having never been antiquated with community of the 'working class' i neither feel your ills or your am subject to your whims, and thus feel no pathos towards ones as pitiful and meek as yourself

get your head out your arse and realise what you're arguing about

you cant see how spending £600 on a computer program to make tunes that'll never get released or make money for 99% of producers is in anyway the same??

its £300 fuckin quid, its the same price as a fucking Ipod or a PS3 or 6 games for a console.
