Dubstep has done in 5 years what DnB did in 10-15 years! mental really

It's because of the Internet - it's shortened the life cycle.
But what's crazy is, other genre's evolve and split off in different directions, but don't get... "hijacked"? Like House. It's branched into Underground, Soulful, Electro, etc each with it's own crowd & type of followers but nobody mistakes Electro House for being the "real" sound of House.

However with Dubstep, its like, one particular sound TOOK OVER and the original sound is completely ignored or unknown to people
I would guess it's mostly because of the speed as well. It took time for all those different sub-genres to develop into their own sounds/styles. Whereas its been all compressed with dubstep so that there hasn't even been time to coin new terms and everything's just been mashed up.

Having said that, it was never really particularly easy to describe what dubstep was anyway. Ask 10 different people and they would've given you 10 different answers, all of which were valid. Distance sounds nothing like Skream sounds nothing like Kryptic Minds, yet they're all dubstep. So maybe the broadness of what dubstep covers made it a lot easier to be co-opted.

This is very interesting to me, as I was scrolling about lolling, I thought of something... the saaaame exact phenomenon occurred with in the grunge scene. There were a bunch of kids and bands all part of this huge scene in Washington, that was fairly recognized. But then this one band came along... called Nirvana and it all blew up, and kids were "jumping on the grunge bandwagon" and all the old grunge fans hated it. Just like this shit with Skrillex (who I personally am a fan of) :p

Go figure... I'm guessing this is one of those re-occurring events in history

but they didnt rape the sound and turn it into something that was the complete antithesis of the genres original vision and had some credibility with music fans in a broader sense...the only people that propelled skrillex to where he is are 14 year old girls and panty man with shirt off

Second one needs more brickwall limit, there's still some dynamics to be seen. otherwise spot on.

Dear Skrillex, learn how to mix.
I might dislike you a little bit less if you do.
