dont know why no one likes resurrection, it was great.

the only 1 i didnt really like was 3, needed guns.

2 had the coolest thing i ever saw: 'SENTRIES'.

the way the thing moved in 1 when it came out of John Hurt looked a bit dubious.

I Voted Alien.

Why? Because they don't make em like that any more. Psychological headfuck, pure Protagonist > - < Antagonist narrative gold. Extremely well made. The Idea of the ultimate killer loose, trapped in a confined area with you, fantastic representation of how it would feel to be in that situation.

The latter ones traded an actually decent narrative for flashy gimmicks and shit, don't even get me started on the much more recent ones.

Same goes for Terminator, The Matrix, and Resident Evil. The first ones are always amazing, the ones that define the paradigm, then its down hill from there, it seems, sad really.

Apparently that womans reaction is genuine, she didn't know what was going to happen on set that day, she turned up and they were all wearing rain macs, next thing they roll cameras and they act out the scene, non of the actors bar a small few knew that his chest was gonna explode, you can't 'act' that shit, in terms of film, that stuff is gold dust.

on a cinematography level, Alien is by far the best, and as others have said is more a horror movie than an action movie.

However, Aliens took the original into new territory and I love it equally as much as Alien.

As for 3 onwards, meh.

alien for thriller/horror, plus the first time you see giger's alien designs that has become so iconic
aliens for kickass space marines and action, plus you get to see that they work as a colony (also nuke it from orbit it's the only way to be sure)
i'm partial to aliens due to the graphic novels

joeki wrote:There's no choosing between ALIEN and ALIENS really. They are two different sides to the same beast. Alien had epic suspense, frightfulness, awesome music (though some of it was used again in ALIENS), great acting too.
The second one is nearly two hours of quote after quote that I'm still using today. It's an action packed piece of adrenalin, the likes rarely get made today.

Alien 3 is not bad either though, I think it's depreciated for the wrong reasons. It had a low budget, but it was sort of a return to ALIEN, and let's face it, Ripley is fucking bad-ass. But yeah, three does get overshadowed by its older brothers.

The series ends there as far as I'm concerned.

I think Alien was the better film for its innovation and originality but I prefer Aliens for the action factor... at the start when they peel off the wall and pull that guy up and away or when they're all crawling on the ceiling over the marines is sick!

Gotta say that Alien's SFX are better than a lot of films today, even when you see the actual Alien it's not like you think "Oh... that's pathetic"... fuck modern over-reliance on CGI

By the way, The trailer to Prometheus seems to have the same musical score as the original 1979 ALIEN trailer, albeit in an updated version (future alien ost?). Awesome.
