Yeah, i'm talkin 93-94. Like I said, maybe i'm splitting hairs but I thought it was enough of a point for a thread like this. I personally never heard 'Drum & Bass' being used to describe the sound in that time period, but maybe that was exclusive to the area of London I lived in/circle of friends etc.
Yeah, your not the only old timer on here (don't watch the join date) :w:

i never look at join dates..utterly pointless.... anyways...im sure there were releses on timeless recordings too that referenced themsleves as drum n bass as early as 92 or 93 as well.

i personally wouldnt have any problem referring to b- complex as jungle or bloodclot artattack as drum n bass .

Timeless only had one release in 93. I've no idea what it was referred to but one side is what I would distinctly call Jungle. The flip is somewhere in the hardcore/jungle grey area.
Like I said though, my evidence is anecdotal. You're probably right.

This should help/confuse u guys more over the difference between hardcore and jungle... :h:

Soundcloud
havin' a listen now, whats the first tune? i know the kinda horn loop (maybe not a horn, but seems like some sort of blown instrument anyway) from some dnb tune and that percussive sound from firestarter. actually you got a tracklist for the lot? i'm sure i'll be askin' about more later.

this is what got me into hardcore/jungle in the first place.

edit - ahh the horn track i guess, i just downloaded it and didn't check the soundcloud comments, anyway tracklisting would be cool, i know some of these tunes from old skool mixes n stuff.

ok ....

the horn track- Egyptian Empire
Dont go- Awesome 3
Hardcore Jungalism (remix) - manix!
L.S.D- Kaotic Chemistry
Inro a Dream - nu-matic
Gonna be alright- Nookie
I can't stand it - manix!
drumscare - 2bad mice
spectre- mashed
terminator 2 - refidge kru

hope this helps :)

Jungle was the first name for the sound: some people objected to it, claiming that there was a subtle (or not so subtle) racist implication to the name. DnB happened a little further along the timeline when some producers wanted to distance themselves from the growing ragga-fication of the sound and try and posit something [they saw as being] more "intelligent."

Y'all should read this sometime - it sums it up nicely.

Good documentary if you're looking for a bit of history, a trip down memory lane or you just want to see DJ Rap in her prime.

Unfortunately im also old enough to know.
jungle was first called jungle-techno as far back as 1991 and was played alongside hardcore. the main distiction of jungle is a chopped up amen break with "sound system" infuluenced basslines, it always had a strong jamaican influence to the overall sound.
jungle and dnb were the same genre untill around 1993 when people started to differentiate dnb as a cleaner, technical style. the two styles finally seperated around 1995 with the emergence of dnb sub genres (hardstep in 1995 and then techstep in 1996).
