The majority of you have probably worked out for yourselves, "GetDarker" and "This Is Dubstep" are two separate brands. (GD's spin on the CD is easily visible). The approach I am working on (as I always have through GD) is to 'educate'. A bold statement I know, but let me attempt to explain.
TID2012
Nero - Promises (Love it, or hate it - commercially, it charted at No. 1)
"IF" our younger generation who as we all know are FLOODED by mainstream 'tear-out/bro/whatever' were to buy this CD, which is perhaps likely - they are then
FORCED to stumble across the side of dubstep which I (and the majority of this forum) thrive on.
Another example
OUR EVENT at CABLE - Xmas 2nd Dec 2011
It was full capacity. I can confidently say, half of that club was filled to see 16Bit alone.
"BUT" that same crowd was also
FORCED to listen to YOUNGSTA b2b DISTANCE (which was one of the best sets I have ever seen in a long time).
TO BE BLUNT - The point im trying to make, which i've never publically spoken about - I am trying so hard to ensure our 'roots' or 'original' or the 'bit we/I' am so passionate about, becomes the talking point of DUBSTEP. Not this electronic, mainstream... World domination.
The issue that remains, is there is not enough 'EDUCATION' going on. Leading DJs, Leading Radio Stations, Clubs and Events are ALL pushing the 'POPULAR/TRENDY' side, it keeps their stats high, keeps the bookings coming in. Well for me, this is all still a hobby...I still work 9-5....... SADLY, I am passionate about it.
And for the record, I am very proud of THIS IS DUBSTEP 2012. And its easy to justify as the most credible dubstep compilation

All that needs to be said is big up for putting some banging unreleased tunes out!
It would've been a real shame if tunes like Danger, Circles, Dungeon Style, or Winter Writer never got put out at all.

/just skip past the "chillstep" tracks to next filthy drop.
Nah, big up, I haven't seen the tracklist past what's on the advert (Ed Sheeran???), but like I said, and you've backed up, this isn't for people like me.

Two types of people are going to buy this cd and both types will skip tracks depending on what type of 'dubstep' they are into. No one is forced to listen to anything, so i dont see how the younger generation is going to be exposed to the deeper side of the genre because of it.

Now your turning it into a science.
Many people put a cd on and let it play, thats what a compilation is all about - of course people will have their favourites, but if a UKF fan/follower is listening and stumbles across Mala's Livin Different - it could open up a new route of their interest.

I just listened to it, just heard Nero - Promises for the first time, turned me onto brostep!

Nah, I kid, I can see how it might work, just have to hope it goes that way. Hopefully the ad can convince some of these kids to get off youtube-to-mp3 haha.

Biggup Darkside. Original don.
Everything you had said make total sense, and this is probably the best compilation series that is aimed at all spectrums of the scene. Keep doing what youre doing and hopefully the education will start to take effect.

I think GetDarkes has made a really good choice. I see in the playlist more dubstep tracks than brostep tracks. I see names like Mala, Vivek, Von D, Kryptic Minds, Phalaeh, Benton, Goth Trad... The thing is that they don't even mention these names in the advert or the promo mix on youtube. I think it's a good way to make the brostep supporters buy it and open their eyes to the true Dubstep. We are always complaining that they don't know the big names and they get stuck in Flux, Doctor P, Nero and UFK tracks in general. IMO it's a goog step to "educate" some people.

Nice selection of tracks imo, something for everyone in there. And Big up Darkside, done a lot for dubstep over the years. Totally agree with the point he makes. Providing a mix of the genre is gonna help the ones who dont know, get to know. Can only be positive for dubstep!!

Surely the people talking shit about this compilation haven't actually looked at the track list, I mean it's like 80% big tunes and the bro tunes chosen aren't even that bad. Big up Darkside, this can only be good for the scene.
Had a laugh/facepalm at the YouTube comments on the minimix of this though, people saying "I don't like where dubstep is heading" referring to tunes like Bahl Fwd, Babylon Fall and all the deep bits
