This was a great video, really makes me want to get off my ass and actually do something useful instead of sitting around all day and, well, watching youtube videos

Thank you so much for this dude! Very informative and helpful! Also a big thanks to Illgates, if he ever sees this!

mad inspiring! getting strict about producing can be tough to do but a lot of this stuff sounds like really good habits to get into. i definitely plan on trying some of this out, i am way too lax at the moment. big up for sharing!

Has anyone brought his other videos ?
Apparently you have to sign up for $50 a year

Sounds a bit sketchy

yah the subscription really puts me off. especially with no guarantee of further projects being released. id much rather just go to the lecture live but there are no dates in my area atm. ill just wait it out

I signed up. His views on library organisation is worth the price alone. He was in perth a month ago but I managed to only hear about it this week so i missed out. Luckily i still get to see it :h:

I was joking btw about the library bit being worth the price alone. Most of that video can been found at http://www.eskamon.com/ableton.html though he does expand on it a little in the paid version. Once I've watched the whole workshop i'll be sure to drop my opinion of whether its worth $50 or not.

I dunno, 50 dollars for four hours of solid information is pretty cheap in my book. On top of that, you get the production template, that alone is like 50-75 bucks.

While on the topic, the eskamon pack is cool, but he also has a free racks pack that is pretty fucking top notch. im pretty sure its on his ill methodology site.

I dont know if it has been mentioned, but iLL Gates also has an Ableton template that I have heard great things about. From the video demonstration, he mentions that it is similar to the template that Bassnectar uses, and after watching Bassnectars live sets, I think that it would be amazing to have something similar.

Awesome video, thanks for posting it! Has anyone here seen the rest of them, and are they any good? I might have to get them, this guy makes a lot of sense.

I can vouch for the writing, i've read about that before and used it in different areas of my life. I set 10 goals one year, and achieved all of them, it works! I don't know if it just helped me get in the right frame of mind, or just to organise myself, but it definitely helped.

And what he's saying about making the decision to do music with your life, i made that just over a year ago and haven't looked back. Making progress now, tunes are starting to sound a bit better, know my way round software etc. I have made the mistakes he said about, thinking i need more vst's, trying to learn everything at once etc. Only thing i can't master is splitting my sessions up - i tend to make bass patches then put them straight into a tune and start making it. Then i have to make more patches as i go, definitely slows me down. Might try splitting it up a bit.

The whole series is worth the 50 bucks. Nothing sketch about it. The lessons are as follows...

Lesson 1 – Structural Aesthetics
Lesson 2 – Preparing Your Library
Lesson 3 – Theory of Workflow
Lesson 4 – Workflow in Practice
Lesson 5 – Your Music Business
Lesson 6 – Homework

And he even includes a PDF file of basically a rundown of everything that he covers. I would definitely recommend this masterclass. Probably the best you're going to get.

Nice vid. I'm not really a fan of his music, at least the music that I've heard, but he speaks a lot of sense. There is so much other non-music stuff for musicians to worry about, and it's nice to have the advice of someone who's currently signed and touring. :)

Glad to see DSF on the ill.methodology workshop! I payed for the full workshop on his site a few weeks ago and he has absolutely mint advice for budding producers.

I've never payed much attention to his music apart from his collabs with Bassnectar but he certainly knows his way around EDM production.

Was so keen to see him when he was in Perth but unfortunately I work nights. Definitely the best $50 I have spent. Been spending all weekend sorting out my library.

What is his advice on sample libraries? I've spent a while trying to sort mine out, it's so tedious.

I loved this video! I was already doing the notebook thing (but very glad he gave this advice in this way).
On my sessions : cat + iPhone + ethernet cable ==> bathroom (and now my gf hates me for taking hours to answer her txt sometimes, but she's getting used to it).
He looks like a lovely guy, and very serious at the same time : definitely a bro.

Strongly considering the book, is there an epub version on sale? I don't like paper nor pdfs.

I thought this was a 'Bill Gates' praising thread, that would be grand.

Don't smoke weed?? I' don't know about that one.......Maybe if you aren't a focused individual, but if focus is your mission weed is your vehicle. it's about sticking to the mission even if that means saying no to a thousand good ideas even when blazed. My suggestion, those who can smoke, smoke.

Cannabis is terrible for focus, it inhibits short term memory and concentration.
