pavement are the one band i've liked consistently through every music phase i've ever been through. even back to when i was an 11 year old listening to shit like limp bizkit and linkin park

I am fond of a bit of deathcab from time to time, saw them at benicassim a few years ago and had never heard them before, only went to watch them coz the GF at the time was a big fan, was very impressed gotta admit

transatlanticism was largely responsible for getting me into "good" music way back when
can't say i was too impressed with much after plans tho

anyway, the cinematic orchestra is incredible, probably my go-to for favorite band whenever anyone asks (easier than going through the whole "erm i listen to music mostly made by one dude and a shitload of buttons" ting)

lots of jazzy/fusion stuff is good actually -- bajofondo is a personal fav for "neo-tango" or modern re-working of classic argentine tango (supervielle album is the one)

I think most bands I listen to, although primarily have 'happy' music, have at least one song that makes me cry. It depends on my mood, I suppose. Anywho, bands I've seen and enjoyed.

My all time favourite band is Einstuerzende Neubauten, though I don't think it really matches criteria from the first post...

How about Antony and the Johnsons? His gig was the most moving performance I've ever been to. Antony's music makes me want to smile and cry, it touches me deeply...
