performance mode in FL? that...sounds...interesting...Triphosphate wrote:OP have you seen beardyman perform? Now that is a live performance.
I'm anxiously anticipating performance mode for FL.
I'm skeptical but I will reserve judgement until it comes out
Re: my unique live setup (dunno if ANYONE else does this)
true. I have been bouncing around the idea of doing live synth lines...but here's my main issue (it' probably a really dumb one but like I said, I'm just bouncing the idea around, haven't even TRIED it yet): when I have used midi to record notes for like, when I'm working on a track, and there's a fairly significant delay. that would not go well live. how would I go about minimizing that delay?baseband wrote:jeff mills throws a 909 jam in a dj set. that can be done with a cheap controller and factory sounds in ableton live. juan atkins gets his group together with live electronic sound. that requires a few people who are capable of playing the same tempo. carl craig plays live synth pads over a programmed bass line. can be done with cheap/free soft-synths. (i really should have put a video of mount kimbie up there, but it would have broken my detroit theme)
takes time&patience. drexciya was not built in a day

Re: my unique live setup (dunno if ANYONE else does this)
it was dj aeke. long ago, before I got smart and changed it. thus the username. I can't change it, plus I went by DJ Aeke because I thought it'd be cool since I used djaeke for usernames already. I still do. my name is jake and djaeke is pronounced the exact same way, so I thought it was cool.nowaysj wrote:What's ur name?djaeke wrote:it's funny because I didn't say I was a dj at any point hahaha

my current moniker is needless noise. much more accurate

Re: my unique live setup (dunno if ANYONE else does this)
You are not wrong.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget.
Re: my unique live setup (dunno if ANYONE else does this)
no it does. you see, the difference between having one tempo you can change and two.Mad EP wrote:narcissus wrote: you can't scratch, can't do backspins or other fun record tricks. i like the way cue button works on digital decks. it's just easier for me to mix tunes when they BOTH have a pitch slider. don't take it wrong, i wasn't hating. i just like the feeling of freedom.
serato is probably my favorite. really has the best of both worlds.
That's all fine - but they have nothing to do with the so-called Master Tempo constrictions that you were complaining about before.
i've actually thinking of bringing my electribe out to a show some time and doing breakdowns a la mills with it. might even bring a mic, sample people live and make music out of it. could be fun.
also could sync it up with live, bring a lil keyboard, and bang out tunes right on the spot. could be really fun.
my whole point in originally posting in this thread is, you are not as unique as you think you are (djaeke), because you still are just playing tunes together. when you said "OMG CHECK IT OUT I'M SO UNIQUE," i thought you were really gonna have something to show off. like some actual musical talent. (not saying you're not talented, you might be for all i know)
can you believe, people actually used to get together in groups, learn to play parts on an instrument, and rehearse?

Re: my unique live setup (dunno if ANYONE else does this)
I really don't get why everyone gets so caught up in the performance, movements of the performer etc. It's always been my understanding that dance music is meant to be danced to, which would leave little time for an audience to watch what an artist is doing on stage. We all know that Jack White kills it on the guitar and it's awesome to go to a show and watch him do just that while bobbing your head and just feeling it. With dance music it's more about the big picture. It's the Vibe of the whole event and the people and the person actually playing the music is kinda irrelevant. I guess in this day and age of Super-star bed-room producer/pop-stars it's a little different. People go to worship at the altar of this amazing producer who's live show consists of Two tracks in Ableton, a Trigger finger with stutter edit midi mapped to the knobs and lots of alcohol sip page. Oh ya, don't forget the fist pumps and stage diving.
Then whoever said you should at least "act" like your doing something or make it look more interesting than it really is, that's just straight up phony. It's not like people are mesmerized by your mastery of Vengeance loops and Masssive wobbles. Most people know what's going on behind the decks(laptop.) Everyone has the internet.
IDK, I never thought a DJ on turn-tables was any more interesting to watch than a performer on Ableton or Traktor. Some of the best electronic sets I've ever heard, the DJ was not even visible. He was on a foggy stage behind a giant table or some shit.
Maybe I'm just in a pissy mood too. Whatev. Do what you do, if you enjoy it. Fuck what the inter-webz have to say about it.

To a certain extent I agree, but I think things like this are a different ballgame. When I went to see Mount Kimbie, I didn't know what to expect; it was in a club so I thought they would just play a set maybe. But it was very much a show, like a band gig or something. That did not mean I stopped dancing by the way.
If you're in a dark sweaty club, 2 turntables and a mixer is probably most appropriate. If you're putting on a show, maybe not.

Re: my unique live setup (dunno if ANYONE else does this)
the whole idea of mashing up other people's music of differentgenres in a single song, in a dance music environment, makes me think of bassnectar.

OP you have to reduce your buffer sizedjaeke wrote: true. find hardware setup > options for your i/o device > reduce buffer size to 256 or at most 512
