op i find a good way to look at a heavier track is to think of it more as creating a groove or rhythm rather than a melody. it helps you focus more on getting your sounds to flow and your drums to fit.
Re: Problems making "brostep".
Its boring thats why its hard to make. Sitting on Fm8 automations for 4 minutes gets dulll.
Re: Problems making "brostep".
You've got to get in an aggressive mood. Punch the air or something, then make aggressive sounds.
Good thread.

Study other people stuff, analyse it, figure out how the sounds are made.
Then when it comes to your drop don't try replicate other people's drops. Pretend your the only music producer and you'll eventually start to feel a flow and you'll slowly start thinking of the next sound you want in your drop.
This IMPROVED me so good luck

Re: Problems making "brostep".
just keep trying, its a lot of effort but its worth it in the end if your into making crazy sounds
Re: Problems making "brostep".
Make sure the sounds can be automated all over the place. Massive macros are great for this. A lot of modern dubstep is less sounds than you think, just a few very well automated patches. Sometimes only patch, maybe four or five, just if you listen closely ina lot of tune it's not just different sounds, it's the same sound sort of twisted and morphed.
