Naw man, people are giving you real and true advice, you have to sort through it though. What you are doing is not enough to achieve your goals (it is okay to have goals, and it is okay to work to achieve them, just be smarter about it). You need to take it to the next level. Engage with a real community. Find dj's and other producers that share your musical taste/relative ability and integrate yourself into that space, hopefully physical, but virtual as well. Of course, it is true, you have to step up your tuneage game.

But if you really want to know what you need to do, that is it, above. Several people that know what they are talking about (me excluded) have told you this. Think about it.

Just thought I'd mention there's a fairly big and reputable dubstep artist named Distiction.. just putting that out there.

That's like me calling myself "Kryptic" or something :P

Also, this is electronic music; I hardly see "artists" getting signed (as your signature would suggest is your goal), I see artists with a bunch of tunes signed on to different labels... EDM is more about singles and EPs than albums honestly. I've never really heard of an EDM artist getting signed to a label for 3 albums or something like that.

Yeah i spoke to a label that offered me a few remixes and they said if it panned out they offered different types of deals.I suppose it all depends on if they see you having longevity.
All i'm saying is i binned them off because i found it a bit of a drain trying to sound how they wanted it too,i done a remix for them which i thought was great, they passed it to there guy who said nah it isn't the sound we are after.I looked on their soundcloud page and was disgusted at the tune they choose, what i got from it are some record labels are fucking clueless.

How do you think is the best way to approach labels,i want to mix one of my tracks and then make one more to complete my ep then think about putting it about to see if i can get interest.Do you think i'm best off to get the ep mastered and then send it too labels or just do rough masters myself to see if they are interested.I am really clueless about this.
Also Deadly could you advise on any label's to send tunes too?

just get a decent mixdown, properly label it with contact details in the filename and id3 if an mp3 and submit it however the label asks to have stuff submitted
a brief introduction is nice as well
if they're interested they'll contact you
mastering falls on the label
pick out a couple of your best tunes don't send a whole mess
also don't bug them asking them if they listened yet etc

also no offense but judging by the 2 tracks in your sig i wouldn't be sending stuff to labels just yet
no real nice way of being blunt sorry

I don't think there's a point to get tunes mastered when sending them to a label. Just make the mixes sound nice!

yea what i used to do when i was shopping stuff around to labels (or sending to djs) is have my regular mixdown where it had headroom still for mastering and just toss a limiter on the master to get it to 0db for perceived loudness
that way if a tune was signed all i have to do is turn off the limiter and send the wav file with headroom to the label to get to the ME

Cheers fella,i'm not really like that anyway bugging the shit out of people.Got a few i feel i'm ready to send out just need to work the mixes a bit more.I only really learned to start mixing a few months back,i was really worried about the whole learning your speakers thing but every mix i do i am getting more and more clarity when checking on my car system. For me it's the best place to check because i can a/b up against "pro mixes"(i fucking hate that term)
What i'm thinking about doing is giving it till the end of the year when i have amassed a lot of tunes and then going through and picking the best ones to send off.
Cheers for the tips Deadly

I want to send my EP to this one label....but I doubt it'll get picked up. Might as well try I guess.
