Yeah same opinion!

Step 1. Find your budget
Step 2. Know if your source sucks or not.. (No reason buying a pair of good cans if your using onboard sound..) Even a cheap DX soundcard is better than nothing...
Step 3. Go to your local music shop, guitar center etc, and try some cans on with vairous dacs w/e.. Everyones audio perception is different, so a pair of ATH-M50's might sound dif to you...
Step 4. Buy the cans you want and your good to go! :3

Initially you should be aware that if a product says like "Gaming" or "Made for music" it's gimmick I.E. Turtle Beaches, Beats etc... Imo get some HD280's, MDR's, or 440's... I am rocking some Monoprice 8323's and they are pretty decent for $30, they are flat, and I can mix well on them... I would use these over beats any day.. But when it comes down to it, it's really what works best for you.. Preference bro! :3

i use audio technica ATH-M30s, they were about $150 i believe. well worth the price. comfortable, more comfortable than my friends headphones, dynamic range, a little bassy, but i like that, just learn your speakers and compensate. good luck! i remember when i switched from dollar store headphones to these. my mixing skills skyrocketed. you get what you pay for, so put out a little more than you feel comfortable with.

bro just spend thirty bucks more and get the ath m50s. they are amazing, and are #1 among most credible headphone reviewers on youtube. from what ive heard sennheisers can be too bassy and tinny. m50s are so smooth sounding and have the bass when you need it. i love mine.

i didn't do any research before i came here, so i just posted a review on my headphones, but if you can spend $30 more for the next model up, GO FOR IT. you might blow money on samples, software, hardware, but dude. it's about the music, invest in how you hear it.

I'm using Shure SRH440 and they're awesome to mix and monitor with in production. They're clear, not too bassy like the 550 which are for DJs. A wide frequency range. Wider than a lot of more expensive headphones too.

Guys, guys, the OP just said he's already bought headphones. You can quit with the recommendations.

I have a pair of beats that I'd gotten as a gift. They took a long time to break in and all the plastic shit on them broke ( currently beig held together with electrical tape). That should tell you about tere "build quality".

Aside from that I like the sounds for producing. That bass overload has been pretty helpful in the learning stages. I always use a spectrum analyzer when I'm using them and it helped me understand what frequencys to eq and what the relationship of those frequencys are.

But for listening to music, there pretty shit. It's all about branding.

Well, I didn't really like the flat on the others, love the bass of the Sol Republics, and the colours. Look if I was into mixing and hearing the music for exactly what it is, I would have got the Sennheiser HD 280 PRO's which are a brilliant headphone have reccomended them to my musical friend who produces his own music. Yeah, it is all about branding, thats the only reason beats really sell.

wait... hold on... Are you a producer? If so then you should understand the aspect of mixing down the the truest sound, not a colored signal... At the end of the day it's all about workflow so w/e I have seen kids mix on walmart headphones and get the job done, so :#

you can mixdown on whatever headphones you want if you know them well enough. they wont be the best mixdowns, but you can mixdown with them. however, i would rather have studio monitors for listening, hearing those distant little instruments you never knew were there before, hearing the bass players fingers strike the string, hearing the little errors in your songs that you didnt notice before. meanwhile your beats and sols are drowning out all that prestine detail with its boosted muddy bass.

No mixer, just enjoy listening to music and these headphones sound great.
