surely using someone elses presets defeats the point for this, even if you make something that doesnt sound very good its about trying and experimenting to learn some new skills..not just to proove what skills you already have

As I've already said, the point of this isn't to make a parody track, any muppet can make a parody track that is deliberately shit. But making a GOOD track in a genre that you aren't the biggest fan...that's a challenge
