I like the crackle and phase that tapes get when they start aging, it adds a bit of character!

Got so many old reggae sound clashes on tape, the sound quality on some of them is hideous

gotta love the old days of throwing sampling tapes into a winder to break them down, then piecing together loops... my favorite part about cassettes

cd is better sound quality in terms of accuracy.

vinyl sounds better though to my ears if it's mastered well as it adds a character you don't get on cd.

cassette again adds a different character. To many it sounds bad. To me it suits certain genres of music.

Basically that's as simple as it is on the actual sound debate.

And whats wrong with CD's? Nothing, aside from the fact that they don't have that warmth. You get a CD if you want something to sound crisp and clean.

So Is it the same with dvd's to VHS cassettes?

well, yeah although I don't think format plays as much of a role in film as it does music for a lot of people.

with film it comes down to, well the film quality right? like is it in 8mm or older digital, or even HD

i think it's great! have bought a few new tapes but mostly just like to listen to all the jungle/house/hardcore mixtapes from my youth. most of them are covered with stickers and whatnot but still sound great! only sad thing is they get a little quieter with every play... of all the things I have hoarded over the years, my tapes might be the most useful to me, lol i just need to get a better place to store them!

ive honestly been looking at cassette decks, just to record & sample drum loops with to get some grit

but im talking like a shitty old technics $5-10 job from the goodwill

I love that southern rap tape shit. Impossible to find actual copies of here though. Found a small selection of Memphis bits on ebay the other day. Couple bits I knew and a few I didn't. Cheapest was £65 for some random shit no-one would have probably even heard of.
