Alan X wrote:Would you pay for synths that replicate synths of favorite artists? For example, a lead from producer X in song X as a preset on any given DAW. I have always wanted something like this but haven't found it yet.
Short answer, no.
IMO this is akin to someone asking for a paint by numbers of the Mona Lisa. Even if you have the 'template' of something that has already been successfully created, then using that template won't automatically mean you can paint/write a song, nor will it teach you about the methodology behind getting to that point (in this case, programming a synth to make your own sounds).
EDIT - And purely as an observation, it's interesting to see the curious dichotomy between this thread discussing obtaining presets from other already successful producers, and
this thread (also from OP) discussing the difficulty with defining one's sound...something that would surely be impaired by using presets?

Great observation Wubs.
Reverse engineering a patch can sometimes be helpful but I think you'd still be missing out on the FX chains that put a lot of character into the final sound. On top of that, the side effect of having a bunch of scrubs throwing these presets into their own tracks would further dilute the genre. As frustrating as it is at times, I like that the sounds are just out of grasp for the amateur producer. It gives you something to strive for and filters out the wankers from the passionate musicians.
I love that there are no presets in regards to shredding on the guitar. I've been playing for 17 years. Gotta put in the time and earn it. Which is also partially why its losing popularity in the current culture of instant gratification.
