ive also conceded that banning guns in the USA completely would be impossible.

to paraphrase here is my first step towards a solution I listed in another thread and on facebook... copy pasta 4u

1) gun laws should be 100% federal, having 50 different gun laws for 50 different states defeats the point of having gun laws

2) anything outside of a handgun should be stored at the county armory and checked out upon use, to be cleared and returned after use. Civilians have no functional use for rifles in a home.

3) upon purchasing any weapon you have to attend a self paid certification class to include not only education but marksmanship training. If you do not pass both of these you are not allowed to possess that gun. Until you pass both you leave your gun at the county armory.

4) Upon completion you are issued a federal license. Any alcohol, substance abuse, or violence related misdemeanor results in 1 year suspension, a second misdemeanor results in 2 year suspension, a third and your license is gone for life.

5) As a condition for licensing you must have an initial 6 x 30 minute visit with an approved psychologist for mental evaluation before you may take home a weapon. Each year you are required to have a follow up visit upon license renewal.

6) Magazine fed .223, 5.56, etc weapons are to be outlawed for civilian use. You'll have to hit that deer the first shot daniel boone... shouldn't be a problem if you passed your marksmanship course. You don't need a military grade weapon. If you think you do, join the military.

7) If any person, including children and elderly, have had any type of psychological episode within the past year no gun may be kept in that home. Zero exceptions. Violation or failure to declare inhabitants with mental issues is an instant lifetime license ban.

If you want to defend your home you may store two (2) handguns of which you are certified on in your home. This is adequate for home defense in nearly every documented home invasion. You should be well equipped and well educated thanks to your training and certification and be an asset to your family.

If you want to hunt, your rifles are at the armory and available for your hunting trip... to encourage safe use your hunting license is incorporated in your firearms license as well as max amount of tags for the season relating to the applicable hunting season.

If you want to target practice or participate in sport related to weapons you can do so at the county armory any time you please

You fire a 5.56 round in your home and it is perfectly capable of going in to your neighbors house

A civilian doesn't need to be accurate from 300m when defending your home. In the event you own a home with a visible distance of 300m on the premises, security guards may be a great investment for your mansion.

depends... bird vs buck vs slug. Each has a different effective range.

As far as point, shoot, dead shotguns arent the deadliest of weapons. Range limitations, ammo limitations, reload limitations, aim is a loosely used word. Makes the biggest hole at close range, but even at close range birdshot is survivable. Shotguns are a very odd weapon

Your aim is by default less accurate. You are firing two weapons so physiologically you are compensating. Your field of vision is a fraction of that with a rifle, misses would deaden instantly, and your "risk reward" is pretty fucked up. Law enforcement armor would defeat your weapons and due to your effective range their ability to neutralize you goes way up.

okay, but the type of guy who decides to shoot up a bunch of people isnt the type of guy who cares about coming out alive, and realistically it would take a while before law enforcement shows up.

i mean what kind of rate of fire do you have with a hunting rifle as opposed to two handguns like a glock?
