When I went to the store, was really heart wrenching to only buy what would fit in my bag for the flight home
Shit why'd you have to post that... I've bid on a few on ebay over the years, but didn't know about the represses. Not as 'cool' as original pressings, but fuck... plus I'm far from sober = A dangerous combination.
Can't sleep on the Chain reaction stuff either. It contains some of the releases of artists that I consider surpassed BC/R&S at least in some aspects. Prime example: (did some R&S/DC remixes too, like on See Mi Yah)

Absolutely love Basic Channel. The Chain Reaction material is incredible as well - the Porter Ricks album especially.
Did anyone catch the album von Oswald did with Juan Atkins recently?

Absolutely. You guys should definitely check out Chain Reaction.
For those of you who don't know, Chain Reaction is a sub-label of Basic Channel launched after the initial response from the first couple of R&S releases. Moritz & Mark got sent so many tapes that it felt like a chain reaction and so they decided to launch a seperate label dedicated to other artists.
If I'm not mistaken, Substance & Vainqueur ran the Chain Reaction imprint for most of it's running time. In 2006 they also launched their own label called Scion Versions (another label to check out) with which they sort of continued the Chain Reaction sound after it had stopped.
Unfortunately most of the Chain Reaction records have been out of stock everywhere for a couple of years now though. There might still be 1 or 2 in stock at Hardwax but that's pretty much it I think.
While we're on the subject, I couldn't believe my luck when last week I found a box at work, stuffed away under a desk, that was filled with old R&S, Basic Channel, Chain Reaction and Maurizio stuff. I managed to claim all the Chain Reaction and Scion Versions records for myself including that original press of No Partial on PK with the 2 Wailers Band tunes on the flip. I already had the single sided press but I just couldn't pass up on this one:

I don't have a girlfriend, so if you'd trade me your's for my collection we have a deal.

Any recommendations for a newcomer? I know very little about R&S, which releases should I pick up first in your opinion?

Check out their self-titled album and just go from there I'd say.

Yeah, it's a good start, but there are quite a few releases on the label that don't have any tunes on the CD.
Check out the stuff on the Rhythm & Sound label if you want the more techno-y side of it, and Burial Mix label when you want the dubbier side.
My personal favourites are:
Aground/Aerial (RS07) - This is "meant" to be played at 35 rpm, but both tunes sound so much better at 45 rpm!
No Partial (PK6)
Carrier/Density/Outward (RS05) - Outward is straight one of my favourite tunes of all time, and I'm a ledge, so you can trust me
Music Hit You (w/ Jah Batta) (BM13) - Vocal tune with a version on the flip

Cheers guys, will check these out
Also saw there's a few vinyl compilations gathering tunes released on Burial Mix, should be good value for money!

the Maurizio stuff is prob my favourite BC alias at the moment,
love dropping using this as a bassline tool during mixes, classic!
round two - new day doesn't get enough love either IMO - all about the cheesy andy caine vocal
also +1 for chain reaction - vladislav delay, hallucinatory, porter ricks, monolake - carrying on the BC legacy and extending it onwards

used to really love R&S until 2009
when I came out of Truth/Plastician annoyed cos they were playing broishly
& walked up the road to see R&S with Bug at the Sydney Festival.
It was so boring I went back to the other.
Maybe I should give em another chance.

Saw Moritz Von Oswald last saturday in Tresor And without knowing anything about Rhythm & Sound tuis was a true eye opener. One of the best sets i've ever heard. Also dropped some Mala like sinners which went off!

Still really need No Partial though. After that I've pretty much got all the R&S records that I want.
Can't wait to build up my collection of their stuff. Some of the best productions ever in my eyes.
