Most people have no idea what a DJ is

most people think all electronic music is made by DJs

hell most people now seem to think a formant screech over a half-time dubstep beat is 'bass'

Knowing that most of the time it's layered with a sine wave beneath, i don't see why it's wrong.

I'd say I mix not DJ!
If thats so we should adopt the Jamaican 'Selecta'. Sounds much better than DJ anyway. What do you do? I'm a dubstep selecta.

Force MCs to say 'run the riddim my selecta' after every rewind too.

DJing and Turntablism are different arts
the halfway between mixing and turntablism that most radio hip-hop and funk djs do is perfect for me. play bits of songs, cutting and juggling in between, i think thats the most interesting form of djing.

Because kids are listening to this stuff on laptop speakers/iphones and going on about how amazing the bass is XD

I was half joking but my point was that bass in the context of electronic music a lot of the time now is interpreted by people as being a bunch of massive patches strung together with screetchy/blippy sounds over a half-time beat rather than actual bass itself. Its become something of a buzz word

They think that DJs make music because now a days, DJs actually make music, you need to tell people the difference between a DJ and a music producer. Deejays mix things, adding samples here and there, music producers make music and if they want play them live, but they both clashed together and instead, they mix their tracks. We still have the MP in it though with Launchpads and "Live" sets (Drum Kits, Pianists, vocalist, and the DJ).
