See, this is the root cause of the problem. Phaeleh is a dubstep producer. Plain and simple.

Unnecessary sub-genres that get created by blogs and producers for the aforementioned reasons don't suddenly need to be retroactively applied to everything just to shoehorn things into one box or another

Since his debut release in 2008, Phaeleh aka Matt Preston has developed an inimitable style of cinematic electronic music, which meanders between the shifting tempos and timbres of dubstep, garage, electronica and house music.

^^ Taken from his facebook page.

I'm not saying that he isn't a dubstep producer, but some of his tracks can come under a different sub genre of dubstep. I'm sure even Phaeleh would say his music doesn't conform to the more 'traditional' dubstep, therefore surely it could come under a sub genre?

but then surely by casting aside sub genres of dubstep, you too are trying to shoehorn things into one box; the dubstep box

And I'd say Phaeleh's tunes are ambient, or of an ambient nature. lol

i think you keep missing the point.... there are NO subgenres within dubstep. only shoot off genres which are completely seperate in their own right (eg futuregarage [which btw, is a load of wank])

On what basis can you categorically say there are NO sub genres within dubstep, Nevalo? I don't understand the constant paranoia about sub genres on DSF! It's almost as if a lot of people on DSF have a phobia of dividing up the genre! Things naturally progress and change style, especially music - surely these progressions and changes can be given sub genres.

Would a shoot of genre not be a sub genre then? Same thing surely?

There's a HUGE difference in sound between one dubstep track to another dubstep track these days, as there is with ALL genres of music, having seperate sub genres just makes it easier for people to find and listen to the type of dubstep that pleases their ears; without having to plow through shit loads of brostep to find a chillstep track.

Probably the fact that the whole point of dubstep from the beginning was that there was a sound for everyone within the genre itself.

Let me ask you, why cant that continue? is there a need to split up what essentially made this genre unique?

"Lets cut this out here, and this out here..." nah, bun that, its all dubstep (even if certain groups/people dont like/agree with it), no need to give something a new name when nothing has changed.

I bet Phaeleh would actually tell you he just makes tunes and doesn't give a fuck what people call it. No need for superfluous-adjective-step.
