They are tax deductible because they are considered a tool of the trade.

Pretty sure South London Ordinance is/was a Lawyer or something? Maybe Graphic Design.
Foreign Concept was a Banker.
Mistabishi was a Banker.
Brian Eno makes all the sounds for Windows apparently. Like every single one. But I guess that's still just making music at the end of the day.
Ben UFO has/had some kind of office job.
Apparently Datsik was a Pizza boy.
Burial worked in a Bar or something between or before the Full Lengths.

Nebula (drumfunk / jungle producer) is a Geography teacher I believe. He doesn't DJ though so doubtful he makes any money from his music really.

Got to say I was surprised Coki stuck out his office job as long as he did, fair play to the man though, sounds like a level-headed guy.

Nice, is there a limit? Surely if you're DJing and don't get paid very much you can't claim back tax on £500+ worth of vinyl a month... like surely you can't claim back more tax than you even get paid lol.

Wouldn't you have to argue pints are a tool of trade to claim back tax on it? Go home with pockets stuffed with drink receipts lol.

Haha, that's great^

What isn't important then lol. These videogames I play are necessary for inspiration. The internet obviously is necessary for sending mixes, tunes etc.

Nah you can't... not in the UK anyway. You cannot claim alcohol as an expense  For a few years now, entertaining (like, take a client out for lunch) is also not a legitimate expense.

And you can't claim the VAT back on anything unless you're VAT registered. But you could and should claim your vinyl as an expense (which means its cost is deducted from your taxable income).

And yeah internet is a legitimate cost. THough not 100% of it. If you're claiming 100% of it's cost you're liable to provide proof of it being 100% for work activities.

how much would you have to be earning from gigs to be able to claim back records? enough to get taxed presumably?
