anyone got ideas about the limitations on logic express vs pro??
i know some of the fx are not in express (eg space designer convolution reverb)
apple have not put up a comparison chart, and the tech spec breakdown on the apple site looks pretty much blow-for-blow
eg sampling rate, number of audio tracks, busses etc?!?!
cheers

Pretty sure there is a comparison chart on the Apple page. Remember using it myslf when I bought Express. Now got Pro though.
Express is great. But I couldn't resist.

seems that this is cracked allready
still definetly gonna keep it legit, the price for upgrade from lp7 to lp8 is a bargain... like to keep my daw and plugins all nice and clean. as someone said; "no crack no crash"

I reckon this is Apple's intention. Why else replace a secure dongle system with a serial that is released within a few days?

With Logic 7's dongle still uncracked, and cracks of other professional software (Pro-tools, Nuendo, etc) running on PCs, Apple's studio-dominance was being seriously undermined.
With the old Logic 4 dongle crack, people were buying Macs, just so they could use Logic - people who couldn't afford both. This added up to a huge user-base. Nowadays, kids are more likely to buy PCs, so they can run cracks of Fruity Loops, Reason, Live, whatever. That is a huge user-base of people who couldn't give a toss about Macs!
BTW, I once met Herr Lengeling, Logic's writer, and he was running Logic 4.7 on a powerbook, using the old dongle crack! Said he couldn't be arsed to carry the dongle around. He'd hacked it to display a picture of himself though! hehe!
I will upgrade from 7 (later), but in the meantime, those cracks look well tempting...

There has been some serious voodoo done under the hood, that's for sure.
so youre saying it sounds good then

I've just done my first mix in it. It's WAY better. It's easier to get sounds to gel together in it.
I also tried playing older songs through it, and they are softer, more open and not as hard/small.
I'm very happy with it. The new comps are good and the Delay designer is some serious shit.
Logic 8 is a complete re-write and its rumoured to have a brand new audio engine under the hood. Most people are experiencing the same thing about it sounding better.
The EQ and Compressor plugins again have been re-written and they now sound fantastic!
Haven't had a play with the delay designer yet as I fear it might not play to nicely with my now rather aging Powerbook G4
P.S. I have a fully licenced & boxed academic copy of Logic 7 for sale, PM me if you're interested

So anyway - been playing with my new copy of Logic 8 for a week now after being a long term ableton user.
Im so looking forward to getting immersed in this program
The Eq's and compressor's are great.
The overall timing just seems to much more of a natural groove than any other sequencer I have used. I have found myself making drum loops with much more swing and feel to them.
Would be interested if any one has a essential advice that helped them when they were starting out with Logic?

Do you know how angry I am. Spent 700 quid on Pro 7 ten days before the free upgrade cut off date.
So effectively I'm spending 820 quid while everyone else spends 350 or whetever it is.
Can't decide whether I really need it or just secretly desire it.

That's not strictly true, a good friend of mine procured a cracked (and fully working) Logic 7 Pro from an old German dude in the Paraguyan rainforest. Sounds like a bit of a yarn, but i assure you, its 100% legit!

yeh i shitteth ye not... said mate of mine, who is an audio engineer, was visiting his missus in south america and met this old german bloke in a "Jumanji-style safari suit" (!) who claimed he had personally cracked Logic 7 Pro to make it work without the dongle. mate was well sceptical (knowing that Logic 7 cracks weren't supposed to exist), but took the disc off him anyways and it worked sweet.
Deep in the Paraguayan rainforest too. Bizarre!

when apple bought emagic and the logic rights it was a conscious effort to get PC logic users to switch to the mac platform and increase mac sales... who knows what apple's gameplan is now, what with rumours of an Apple and Apogee collab on a new "Pro Tools Killer" multitrack recording software....

yo whats the point of a production forum if a technical question just gets lost in a thread of largely uninformative chit chat?
moderators: maybe need to start a forum called "old wives" to meet popular demand and keep this section free for info, questions and advice

not heard of any problems with logic 8 and the firebox to answer your question, though it is early doors yet.

yeah, just being a moody tnuc. but its irritating to ask a serious question then see it swamped by trivia, never to be answered. tho this was by no means the worst case i seen.
anyway. thanks 4 advice.
