Okay peoples, just bought maschine 2.o online.

Here is a blow by blow of the process:

Bought on line, paid with pay pal.

Have started dl'ing all the petabytes of data.

But a little tricky Q crossed my mind. I'm on my lappy, and have never installed maschine on here. Sometimes, I travel, or just like to sit on the couch so like to have maschine on my lappy. This is a relatively new lappy, so never was installed.

So am installing. I was concerned that having no prior install would jack up the "upgrade" aspect of this installation, no such trouble yet.

In fact, just launched maschine 2.0 with no hardware attached, and it seems to be running.

It is scanning my vsts, which should go quick, only lightly use this laptop for muzak.

Okay, it is now looking for an activation, launching service center, which I installed last night.

Okay, service center is asking me for like a 20 digit serial number. This is a bit fucked... I don't have a serial number. Maybe from maschine 1.0?

Oh, okay, in an email: When your order has been filed, you will receive further information in separate emails, including: Your serial number and download links, if you ordered download products. This can take several hours, or in exceptional cases up to one business day, if your order needs to be processed manually.

That isn't nec true. I got the dl links on the purchase page, once I paid. I didn't get an email with dl links. Its been about a half hour and I still haven't received my serial number... bummed!

I guess I can dl the rest of the content now...

Okay but here is the question... how am I going to get this software on my main production computer? I didn't think of that. I wonder if I'll be able to dl it again, or just transfer all the files... or maybe dl the installer and then transfer something like what is it 10 gigs?

Okay, after thought: when I purchased, you get a couple links to dl a couple of executables, one is the software, one is factory content. They are applications that dl the content.

I think I'll transfer those executables to my production machine (at some time) and try to re-dl the software and content over there.

I hope this jumbled mess is in some way helpful to any future upgraders. I wasn't intending to write all this out, but here you go, stream of consciousness installation a la nwj.

Okay, activated. Took about 3 hours.

Facial impressions: It looks better. Flatter, maybe lighter, but still a good soothing gray.

Shit is fast. Loads so fast, everything is faster. Old maschine was kind of slow, just navigating.

Everything is real snappy.

Can't figure out how to access my vst's :O

Pretty impressed. I don't see the buss compressor, maybe that only appears on the master?

Pretty impressed.

Okay, first real problem: it used to be helluv easy to create new patterns and scenes, tracks would build themselves on the old maschine. From what I can see, and this is all just software, no hardware at all, it is not nearly as easy to create new or cloned patterns. We shall see.

Fucking mixer is doooooooope.

Gotta find a toggle off full screen keystroke.

From what I can tell, making a new pattern can only be done by clicking a tiny carrot to get a kind of pop out menu then creating a new pattern. I hope that is not really how you gotta do it. That would be a big step back.

Full screen view is also available from your computer keyboard via [Ctrl]+[F] (Mac OS X:
[Cmd]+[F]).
To create a new empty Pattern in the current Pattern bank, press PATTERN + any unlit
pad.

Following the updates. Decided to hold off a bit to buy the update. I'm sligjtly concenred about the new work flow. As you are right about tracks building themselves in maschine.

I'll let you know bro. There is A LOT that I like about this new maschine software. I'm just installing now on my production maschine (joke, sorry). It is so fucking snappy, and the mixer is awesome. Seems like logic's mixer. I really like. You work at the sound level, with 16 sounds, then at the group level, with all your groups. I think gain staging is going to be way more clear.

That pattern creation, and duplication thing IS fucked. The old arranger pane, or whatever it is called, used to be really really easy to work with. Just so easy to create a copy pattern, make changes, copy and change, it was so easy. It is literally fucked now. I don't see it staying like this, unless of course, I'm missing something. Which you know, tends to happen. But it is not like it was, which was, again, TOTALLY intuitive without need for manual. Honestly if you need a manual for the basic functionality of your product, your ui designer should have his Audi taken away from him, or her.

Okay, holy fuck sticks. Buttock is going to love this one.

My main production machine is a very happy and powerful Windows XP system.

Does anybody see the problem with this?

Windows 7 or above is required.

I'm gonna see about a refund now...

That's not cool. Any reasons for upgrading from XP?Imho the improvements Maschine 2.0 brings might be worth it.

I've literally got no reason to upgrade this machine.

1. I don't know if 8 will run on this old mb/chip/ram/firewire buss...

2. I don't know if my sound card has drivers for 8, or if they 're any good

3. I don't want to spend the week fucking setting everything up again.

4. I don't want to buy win 8. That's $100 worth of tape I'm not going to have.

5. I hate 8, can't stand shit popping up on my screen when I move my mouse near the edges (Mac's dock encouraged me to leave the platform), I can't stand that there is like a whole separate parallel OS that does absolutely nothing, yet overhangs.

6. I don't want increased usage of cpu and graphics to run 8.

7. My system is stable, and does everything I want.

8. By by Maschine

I think they are going to fuck with me over at NI. I just looked and their page says no returns on downloads, which sucks a wienerschnitzel.

Was just going to do Komplete too. I think maybe this is where NI and I part ways. Battery and Massive are bread and butter for me. Massive in particular. That is my utility synth. Fuck.

SO if anyone wants to buy that maschine 2.0 software upgrade, I may be selling the license.
