On my word - I can't make a statement without a full explanation; clarifying as to not offend...
British people don't sound gay speaking with a British accent...they sound normal
Americans trying to speak with a British accent sound gay.
and I don't mean -"Hey why you tryin' to sound funny.."
I mean they actually sound like a homosexual person.
Americans are unable to do British English without hitting that gay note for some reason.

Re: having a shoe moment...
maybe because many americans have only been exposed to that theatrical upper class english accent that "british" people tend to have in films
so they just do their "shakespeare voice"
I think there are a lot of americans who think that every english person is some sort of landed aristocrat and that we all live in castles or country manors
so they just do their "shakespeare voice"

Re: having a shoe moment...
You're prolly right imami..or something like that
When I came back to the north east after living in Savannah for 4 years...
I met some friends at the diner like we used to do in high school...
and I said something - and it came out with a real heavy drawl...
My friends were literally on the floor of the restaurant laughing...
They were laughing at me.

Saw a guy wearing these at a birthday party last weekend.

we all just couldn't believe how anyone could see these in a shop and think "ah yeah nice one, i'll take those!"

I think it is because Anglos appear to be a bit soft, so we're kind of manifesting our perception.imami wrote:maybe because many americans have only been exposed to that theatrical upper class english accent that "british" people tend to have in films
