When you feel like fuck I'll never reach the skill I'm after just take a look at tracks you made months ago and compare them with your recent stuff this way you 'll see how much improved and you should realize that it will be the same when you look at your current tracks months from now. Of course you have to practice and do it a lot in order to improve, but this is a great way of getting motivated., since you will realize that you are on your way to where you want to be

I was informed that once learned, ableton is a great daw.
But do you think Fl studio is better?

Oh seriously, I prefer Ableton although it's been a while since I used FL.

I actually and totally do. It is very fast, and very flexible. Ableton is dope, don't get me wrong. I find the mixer limited and difficult to work with. But any daw will do, maybe even reason in this day and age (though I don't recommend it), so the most important thing is don't just keep changing shit thinking it will be easier or produce better results. I can write, produce and mix dope shit in either or any daw (except maschine, still sounds quiet to me), it is really irrelevant actually. Fl studio's number one benefit, imo, is its midi editor, which is the best by far of an daw I've used. Very fast, very easy, and I get the results I want. I spend a lot of time editing midi data, so it make sense to be in there. Fl studio's audio editing in the playlist/arrange page is good, I think cubase is better, but cubase is such a brick in so many areas, why bother; but I think it is better than abelton's. Neway, gotta run, big picture point is the daw is not what is holding you back, your lack of knowledge of how to use it is. Switching daws is not going to help with that!

Can't stand how ableton is totally inflexible, and that they, in practically 2014, figured out that maybe, just maybe, someone might have... Two monitors.
I manage windows in fl. Everything has a place, and I can see everything I need to see: step seq, browser, mixer, playlist/arrange, piano roll. And all at a good actually usable size.
I'm not even going to get into shift, ctrl, alt in fl - playlist/arrange and piano roll just breeze with the help of these modifiers.

On another note, guys I literally JUST switched from FL Studio to Ableton two days and now you're making me rethink my decision

Like they
just figured it out, and yes, computer monitors, like the things you look at.
Probably most people now in production started producing with live 9, but it hasn't always been this way.

Yeah I kind of switched over at the best point. There's minimal features missing.
No timestretch in Simpler/Sampler though.... FFFFFFFFFF! Making me get into the guts of Kontakt just to stretch shit independently of pitch. Good excuse to become a Kontakt wizard though so I ain't really mad.

Naw dude, just stretch it in live. One thing that is disconcerting - no (specific) audio editor in live.

Yeah but then I can stretch it on the fly and tune it to the rhythm I'm playing, I gotta set it as a clip and then trigger it to get it in time. It also fucks with the source sample I think, so I'd have to consolidate it, etc.
It'd be so much easier if there was just a stretch factor parameter as well. I can put it in the granulator I guess but that's a pain in the penis compared to how it could be.
