yes. battering the strings close to the bridge sounds just so incredibly whack and doesn't give a tone nearly as clear and powerful as achieved by other techniques. this being said, Wooten bores me aswell, so you might latch on to that.
also, what Johoosh said.
Okay, I still differ in opinion. He doesn't slap around the bridge though, does he? Find a youtube example or something would you I'm interested

hm, seems like he's rather civilized, indeed. I was 99% sure he slapped even closer to the bridge last time I saw them, around where he pops in this one. note the open hand's 90° angle to the strings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En1U1P9di64
control & perfect execution vs. brute force.
don't like flea's sound at all - but "tastes".

Yeah Flea has more of an aggressive attitude to it, and a more 'quacky' sound compared to Miller. To be honest, I do prefer Miller's tone, but Flea's music just appeals to me more.

That's Larry Graham on the bass for Sly and the Family Stone. Check out his band Graham Central Station that he started after he left Sly.

When it comes to simpler stuff, I've always loved The Cure's basslines. Very easy to play I guess, but fits their songs perfectly
