Grime Grime Grime
Also I wouldn't be surprised if deep house got a helluva lot more tech-jazzy. In fact jazz influence in general, that's gonna be coming back.
I think production has become fairly stale in the hype scene for a while, a little too clinical and I think this is going to create a backlash of people wanting more 'real' sounds. so more lo-fi and grime style production.
Something has to happen in the dark scene as well, hard to see that one. A loooooooot of it is going to get weeded out though, over saturation is causing a lot of producers to jump ship but I can't tell which direction it's going to shift. Summer '14 is going to be interesting for sure!

So Knife Party and possible Pendulum album this year.

My predictions:
1. "trap music" will continue to increase in popularity, thus spawning a "hipster trap community" who listened to it first... if this hasn't already happened
2. Dubstep music will neither die nor make a comeback. I think it will maintain a group of core followers who will continue to buy the music
3. More states will legalize marijuana... hopefully
4. The amount of people producing music will increase A TON
5. Skrillex will come back into the limelight somehow
6. A new social media site will begin to become popular towards the end of the year, possibly surpassing Facebook.
7. The United States' economy will get better
8. The United States' foreign relations will get worse
9. There will continue to be huge leaks regarding the NSA and privacy concerns
10. Google will buy out Netflix

In my opinion, no. Although that is not based on any numbers or hard facts, it's just a gut feeling.

Polsynths, polysynths everywhere.
Dubstep will fade further into the history books.
Electro will replace jump up tearout dubstep
Everyone will cry a little more inside
House and techno will go on uninterrupted like it always has.
Deep house will become so adopted in the UK mainstream clubs that it'll loose all meaning - it'll be like how it was for us turning 18 and hearing every garage classic in every club on repeat all night long and thinking "town" has sick music, but for the younger gen with deep house.
I predict a lot of producers will try and splinter off to create the next niche, or the next big genre. "Bristol Sound" or "130" some such twaddle. It'll be well received by ex-dubstep heads who didn't like the whole house/techno thing but are still clinging on the past by spinning "Return II Space" at every opportunity whilst yelling "THIS IS REAL DUBSTEP" into the ear of a female fresher who's had a few too many sailor jerrys and doesn't realize she's wearing her sunglasses indoors and that she's not in ibiza.
Overall the electronic scene will fade a bit - i predict floppy inoffensive indie rock will come back again. instead of hearing Maya Jane Coles "What They Say" at 2am in Vodka Revs it'll be back to "the maccabees" or some shit. Super star DJ's will loose a lot of their income when the VIP culture rolls on leaving only broken pairs of Ray Bans behind.
New Balance shoes and generally wearing really shit trainers in clubs will fall so fast out of fashion that they bump into the Delorean from Back To the Future - the next time you'll see a pair will be on ITV's "We <3 2013" throwback program aired at 4:30am cuz nobody actually gives a shit about their shoes that look like Colgate were given the design brief.
Jonny Banger will start a Boris Johnson promotion campaign, titled "Boris & Banger" and rips off the Abercrombie & Fitch logo. This will sell millions and the rights to which will be bought by Urban Outfitters, but copied by Topshop anway.
They'll be a festival every 5 minutes with Croatia turning into the prostitute of the festival world, whoring out their lushous landscapes too all breeds of munchers. Eventually evicting all locals and throwing one summer season long festival called "W△STED △△△" where the music policy is Hot Since 82's "Bigger Than Prince" on repeat for 16 hours a day.
Someone will take a photo inside the Bergain and post it to the Resident Advisor forums and the whole city will have to be exorcised by Ben Klock. His shipment of holywater will be intercepted by Mary Anne Hobbs but she lets it go anyway cuz she gt another txt frm her m8 Burial and forgets.

I honestly have no idea what half of this is about, but it cracked my shit up.
The polysynth thing is interesting...you mean hardware wise? Analog or digital? I dont think weve seen the end of the analog mono craze yet. They are so affordable. Im curious about where hardware goes with the hybrids like Maschine and MPC Ren (I guess you can lump Push in there too) and the whole new analog craze. Less bank breaking botique boxes...more stuff like the Korg Volcas and Micro/MiniBrute and BSII.
Who ever said the US Economy is going to get better. Bullshit, wait until the Student Loan bubble goes...itll be worse than when the housing market took a shit...though I agree our Foriegn Relations will get worse.

Yes. In the next decade a lot schools are going to downsize or disappear in the States IMO. Small private schools will go first is my guess. The big dog private schools are unlikely to be affected IMO and the state schools will linger, but will kill themselves/each other fighting over reduced state funding.

Yeah man - as you said mono analog's have reached an amazing price vs performance point right now. I expect Poly's will do the same this year. I appreciate there have always been mid/high end poly's available for around the 1k mark, but I reckon we will see a £/$500 poly that becomes "the synth" of the year.
The rest was mainly ramblings of a bored office worker.

Or what's gonna happen is admission to these smaller schools and state schools will become easier and easier so they can bring back the money lost by lower tuition

Id love to see an analog poly new for that price. Ive almost pulled the trigger on a DSI Prophet Rack a couple times but decided I had not business spending that much on one piece of gear. Dunno if youve seen the Waldorf Pulse 2. Technically a Mono synth, but it has some kind of fake poly mode. Not sure what all is possible with it.
I am also bored at work today ;p

Well, to be perfectly honest the State schools I work for are already at the point of accepting damn near anyone and taking their money. Not sure what you mean by lower tuition...every thing points to continued rise in tuition cost? Though, in general I think tuition will go down. The US government cant sustain this absolutely insane and blind giving of money to people who mostly never recieve degrees and to people who do recieve degrees but never find good enough employment to pay them back. Not to mention all the scamming that still goes on.
Around here there are a significant number of people who take out loans with no intention of going to class, they use the money left over after tuition to live on or whatever. They ve only just introduced a grading system that allows faculty to indicate that students never showed up ever or stopped attending class part way through the semester. If a student gets flagged this way enough times they will no longer qualify for federal loans. But every semester I have classes (mostly night classes) in which about half the students dont ever show up and dont drop the class.
I even had one student, who was trying to con me into an incomplete, admit she only came back to school because "she needed the money"
@Trap: Yea...after my local weekly purposefully did an all Trap night that was filled with a bunch of faux-ghetto smurfs hyped up on redbull, vodka, badly cut drugs I stopped going forever. Then they folded like shows after that because pretty much all the DJs they relied on called bullshit and wouldnt book with them anymore lol

yeah I was talking more about the higher end state schools like UNC and Virginia. And yeah eventually tuition will go down and when that happens you'll see easier admission requirements

That's fucking pathetic if you ask me. Should be a one and done if you ask me. there's a difference between skipping classes but still doing the work and not even fucking attempting to learn somethjng

Good guess that I dont work for "higher end" state schools, lol. Though Id argue Kent State main campus is a damn good school (I work for one of their community college branches). Im telling you though man, I bet if you look at the requirements for even the better state schools youd be surprised.
And yea. It is a pretty pathetic con, one that might fuck the economy in the ass. I mean, I wouldnt mind my loans being forgiven, but whats the point if the country is in shambles because of it.
The bitch is, even if the government or whoever is in charge of these peoples' loans went after them, they dont have anything to take. This all came to a head in Northeast Ohio when a woman was arrested for making fake GEDs, mostly for the purpose of helping people con the federal loan system.
That student I mentioned...I probably shouldnt have done it, but I emailed her back saying there was no way in hell I was giving her an incomplete after she basically admitted to stealing tax payer money and that she should go get a fucking job. Basically she hadnt shown up except to a few classes. Then said she had "medical issues" but could never say specifically what. Then when wanted me to give her an incomplete.
And before someone comes in here and tells me there arent any jobs, I see ads and signs for both skilled and unskilled jobs all the time around where I live and teach. Minimum wage is crap, but that isnt a reason to use the federal student loan system as your personal lazyness ATM

is tuition for a CC really that high that you need a student loan tho?

ehbrums1 wrote:is tuition for a CC really that high that you need a student loan tho?
I honestly dont know what the tuition for Kent State, Stark Campus is. Though Im pretty sure they try to convince students to take out loans to pay their tuition and buy books. ...just looked it up about 5,500 a year for 11-16 credits a semester (not including summer) or about 250 per credit hour.
Also, I dont know you background ehbrums, except that you are from the States and a pretty cool guy around the forums. But honestly...there are a significant number of students at both places I teach at who couldnt afford 5,500 a year w/o loans. If you make 50,000 a year that is about 11 percent of your income. Even if they live with their parents who make 100K a year after taxes that could be a significant chunk.
I teach people who live nextdoor to crack houses.

yeah in hindsight that was a bit ignorant on my part. its just hard to compare tuition here and tuition there, see that people are scamming 5,500 a year and not a get a little uppity.
