Re: How to sample
Reaper. You can process arbitrary clip selections with effects. Each clip can have it's own non-destructive plugin chain too that's separate from the track effects. You can zoom into the sample level and make splits and fades, slide the underlying audio around within the clip without changing its start and end points, render out clips as new audio with a click, etc. It's a pretty potent audio editor.

Re: How to sample
Just in the playlist/arrange page of reaper, or is there a separate audio editor? Fl's the same way, wait, does reaper have clip based automation? Fl is the same in all of the above, but you can't select a segment of audio and apply fx to that. Like I'm most interested in not instantiating fx in like the mixer, just quickly making a stack and applying to a selection and having the whole stack just disappear. If you know what I'm saying?
Re: How to sample
Just in the standard arrange lanes. Reaper has clip automation (volume, pan, etc) but no automation clips like encapsulating an automation segment in its own clip and being able to ghost copy that across the project and have any changes be reflected across the project. One of the main reasons I started using Ableton.
In terms of the effect processing though, it can do exactly that. You can make your little effect chain and hear it live and then bake it into the clip once you've got it tweaked.

Re: How to sample
Nice.
Clip automation is the bees knees, and one of the things about fl I love. Just so fast, extensible.

Re: How to sample
To the whole clip or just a selection of the clip. Or do you need to split the selection off of the clip into a new clip, creating essentially three clips?SunkLo wrote:You can make your little effect chain and hear it live and then bake it into the clip once you've got it tweaked.
Re: How to sample
Might hafta split and then glue back together. You could make a macro and assign it to a toolbar or menu option though.

Re: How to sample
No glue in flstudio, I think it is an omission. Was just traveling and was working on a song that was all audio, and just million of little audio bits, and I had no mouse... it was fucking hell. You can group in flstudio, great feature just select and Shift+G to group, and Alt+G to ungroup. Which is really great, because you can group clips across multiple lanes. (Lanes kind of but don't really exist in fl) But still would be great to just select and glue into one piece of audio. I don't think it'll ever happen. Their attitude over there is we'll do it if we want to, we don't care what our users want. Literally like KH's attitude, "I made a stack of cash, I don't have to respond to anyone's desires of me, I just do what I want to do, oh yeah, and fuck you."
Re: How to sample
Yeah Reaper's got grouping too. Useful for moving drums split over multiple tracks n shit.
I hate that ego based approach to development but it's pretty common unfortunately. Even Reaper devs who get praised for their community approach can still be really stubborn on certain features. Automation clips being a prime example.

Re: How to sample
I'm totally tooting my own horn, but what is new: But I've been with fl since just about day dot, when the mau5 was just a... shit there is nothing more diminutive than a mouse. I've been complaining and asking for features for a long time. And gol is always like that is stupid, you don't need that, and then two releases later, what do you know... My big pet peeve now is you can't really lock a midi keyboard to a particular instrument. I've got a lot of midi input devices, and when I jam with people it is a MAJOR ballache when they're playing a keyboard, and I touch another virtual device, and their midi stream automatically gets sent to that device. Has killed so many sessions, I can't even tell you. They're literally like FL is designed for one user, and they have since created a shitty work around that kind of meets my needs, but fails ultimately, so... I'm back to sitting by myself...
Re: How to sample
Yeah I hate when they propose some bullshit workaround instead of just putting in a bit of work and implementing a solid simple solution in software. With any software dealing with a creative process where time is of the essence, every effort should be made to simplify things for quick easy access.

Re: How to sample
Exactly. Fl is a stack of work-arounds. Their whole live thing is a workaround. You could already play markers in the playlist with midi. Probably like 10 lines of code and its a "NEW BIG THING". Jokes.
