Or do they get used in ion cannons or some shit?
I think natural ones are all about the bling now that they've got so good at synthetic ones... I doubt a machine cares if its diamond came from the ground or a lab, but your fiancee might.

Like with a building fire or whatever - oh we must save the children first!
Why? Are these kids close to curing cancer or helping with the signing a major peace treaty for the middle east? No. The stnuc don't even pay tax.
and then when you go to A+E the elderly people get seen first

I'm not sure where I stand with old people - do they unequivocally deserve our respect and therefore get to be seen first, or should they be left in the hallway while the kiddies get treated as per noway's view.

Interestingly, if the two people from my previous example both get saved, taken to hospital and seem to be stable then, imo, the child should get seen and treated first because their condition can deteriorate rapidly.

why does age demand respect? I have the same amount of respect for everyone when I meet them, then they can gain it or lose it based on my interactions with them.

Age indicates you've managed to not die, hardly noteworthy to be honest, as a species weve been doing it for a while

Because way back when, not dying was a big thing. Life expectancies have shot up in the last 30yrs, however social norms of respect to the elder as a result of this need to be redefined.

Edit: rereading that back I missed your point.

Only about 8 years, noticable but not massive. But yeah, I dislike the 'respect your elders' comment mainly because it's touted by old people who refuse to give me respect in return. No other reason I guess.

Riddles. He has greater societal worth and is lighter/easier to carry.

True, but I'm not really able to comment on 'Ideas I feel are ready to retire' when I haven't experienced them, so it has to be from my point of view which is UK based.

I cannot fault your choice or the reasoning behind it.

We should stop thinking that the death penalty is wrong. I think that the death penalty is much more humane then letting prisoners rot in their jail. And yeah, giving someone a life sentence is a 'better' punishment, but for who really? Not for the casualties (plus, justice ain't for revenge) and definitely not for the prisoners. 'Cause what's the point of living if that means you're isolated from the world and every day hoping it will be your last day? And even when someone comes out, their lifes mean nothing anymore. And i'm not saying they should apply the death sentence to even a thief, but when you give someone a life sentence isn't it better to just give them the needle?

But then again, our world is based on the (most corrupted) moral rule that life is good and death is bad. Don't get me wrong, killing someone is definitely wrong, but what if it's a better solution for both parties? And believe me, based on all those documentaries (Louis Theroux is one of them) i saw were prisoners are getting questioned what they want, living in jail or getting the death penalty, it's just shocking how many are choosing for the death penalty.

Prison (well at least in the UK) is not about just punishing, it's also about reform.
