This is the thing that pisses me off about some scientist, they get paid to guess and only a small portion of them have any sort of proof to back it up. And when they sometime go on about how something existed 2.458 millions years ago i just cringe.
In regards to Evolution:
I believe our brains evolve in terms of calculations/how we think as we grow. In terms of the physical aspect i see it more like a mutation, going from birth to adulthood.
I'm sorry even though we similarities with monkeys and other animals I will never believe we are descended from them. I respect people who believe in that theory that but i never will.
LOL i'm not even gonna try and argue against that

I started, then I re-read "never will" and gave up.

It's fine everyone is entitled to an oppion and whatnot, but at least be factual about it.

We have a society where you can earn money if you take a long education that puts you in a position to be able to discern or estimate certain things via technology and science. Rarely do experts just get to 'guess'.
The small portion bit is just something you made up and the idea that the 'proof' would be understood by laymen like you or me, suggest you don't understand that they went through an education different from yours or mine, which is odd.

Only just noticed magma has the avatar of shame, was wondering why mason was making serious posts..

So you'll be happy to believe the big bang theory if someone can produce some modern day evidence about the beginning of the universe?

How did humans exist then. Where did we come from?

I've been thinking recently that sentience, or at least some level of it, is an evolutionary trait designed to inhibit the need to procreate and therefore actually only be an advanced form of natural population control. One much needed when a species reaches the top of the food chain and dominates natural resources as we have.

Why would a species evolve to help other species?
If that were true and a certain intelligence stopped us procreating then the trait would die out as the ones with the level of intelligence needed to decide to not breed would not pass it on.

Lol I thought 'sentience' meant walking upright like an ape, and was about to respond to that.

Like we were inhibited a bit in procreating because we weren't crawling around.
What is the word Im thinking of?

Sentience is what separates us from all other animals, without it everything is just instinct

I think you lot might be mixing up sentience with consciousness or reason or just plain old intelligence or something.
Ants are arguably sentient, mice definitely are.

Think of the birds that use crocodiles as sort of jetskis. It's not that they want to, it's just that those tasty bugs happened to recide on the crocodile. There's no why in evolution - just different opportunities from available conditions.

I get it - like aware. But there's a term like upright that sounds similar, I think?

Yeah but a species is not going to evolve to reduce reproduction when that is the sole aim of evolution.

I don't think any human will ever know how it all started, not even with the fanciest of technologies. As powerful as the human mind is I don't think we could calculate/create enough viable evidence/technology to prove such a thing.
wub wrote:How did humans exist then. Where did we come from?
If i knew that answer to that I probably would probably not be human.
But if i had to guess I reckon we are made by some higher intelligence. Maybe earth is nothing more that a science project. If you look at the patterns of life, living, creating things, procreating, advancing in technology etc You would think that cycle never breaks for a reason. Maybe humans/animals genetics also play a big part in our existence.
A lot of what i have said is quiet 'out there' but surely in this reality/life anything is possible. We haven't even scratched the surface of it. We still haven't cataloged all species of animals on earth yet, as new species are being found everyday.

bipedalism is the term for walking upright on 2 legs, not sure what you're thinking of

lol so you are willing to believe that but not something that arguably all the most intelligent people believe to be true?

Because the benefit might have been mutual.
Dogs have evolved alongside humans to instinctively read us differently from other animals (for instance, they'll focus on the left sides of our faces because they show emotion quicker and more reliably)... in return for providing us with companionship, protection and the odd bit of hard work they're given free food, shelter and trips to the vet.
That's an extreme example, but there are a million symbiotic relationships in nature... bees and flowering plants adapting to each other... hell, you're currently hosting a shit ton of bacteria, mites and other tiny little beasties who are perfectly adapted to keep your body clean and healthy in return for a bit of food and a safe environment.

Earlier you said you're an atheist...so would I right in saying that you consider a 'higher intelligence' to be aliens?
