The problem with santon is not them being plastic but the fact the pitch control on it feels weird like it's moving in increments not so continuously

Sold my techs years ago to get my Stanton STR8-150s, don't regret it one bit as they're better decks.

i discussed it already on fb.

but pioneer quality sucks usually. except cdjs maybe.
just look at their mixers. worst on the market.

i'll keep using mkII. probably forever - and that's the point. u can use mkII for ages. if you revise&calibrate it once every 15-20 years you get the best piece of turntable.

they went stadart around the time when digital media came up. also it was partly due to their very aggressive campaign. a lot of serious clubs with a serious PA never had pioneer mixers. it's like everything in music/studio/clubs: it's about the whole chain. you can have the best sounding PA - but when the cables are low quality, the amps not good enough, the mixers distorting or the needle is broken the PA runs on half or less of it's possibilities.

pioneer have one of the worst preamps you can imagine.
I DJ only on A&H. when on a proper soundsystem i even use external vermona preamps.

aite

i'm usually just kinda glad to be using anything other than my own equipment

although i do like that the mixer i use has a knob to turn and choose how much of either channel you hear rather than buttons for on/off

lol so if you were booked and turned up to a club with only a pioneer mixer you would refuse to play?
vulvavibration wrote:yes. that's what i said. CDJs are good. the rest is trash.
no you said they maybe don't suck, what would be other ones competing with them? (i'm generally interested not being a dick)

on/off is fine if there is a master/cue fader

yeah, mine has a fader for that too and it's great except it doesn't work for more than two channels :D

that's what master/cue knob's for

yeah. forgot to mention the rest. filters are completely whack.
not to mention the faders and pottis quality.

best thing i ever mixed on was this beast:
Image

only problem is: it works excellent with house. but i just can't mix dubstep with rotary faders. i like cuts, dropping a tune quickly and all that. rotary is perfect for slow and steady mixing - as i tend to do with house & techno.
it's a whole new feeling too with rotary. you pull up the vhannels volume sooooo consciously. same with the filters - they are actually more than just filters - you can put sound in the foreground. for example this tune:

okay, you hear that around the range of 2-4k there is a warm snappy rimshot - beauty! so you use the filters to bring it a bit more into the foreground - WITHOUT fucking up the sound.

on most regular mixers, also A&H, one shouldn't use the filters for more than killing certain frequencies in the mix. - but going above 0db starts fucking up the sound - although even i tend to go up with the low on smaller sized PAs it's not really the way to head. better make an early soundcheck and fix the sound before the night starts.

in fact and in the end it's all about headroom. and to get back to the topic: pioneer has no headroom. therefor it distorts very quickly.

but worlds between the mixer above and a&h. soundwise.
