anyway, i think prostitution would have helped him. i would bet he would feel more emotional connection through the act of sex, even if it is paid for. plus he clearly had a family, probably some friends, definitely at least acquaintances - it's not like he was a total recluse - he was a college student. i think it was mainly the lack of sex that got to him. i do agree with what you said about the "mental loop" though. that's definitely true.
