surely if someone has the ability to 'crack' a password it's irrelevant how complex it is?

Not at all, it's all about how long the cracking takes. If it's a real word, then a dictionary search will get it in not a lot of time.

If nonsense, but all lower case alphabet then a brute force attack (aaaaaaa, aaaaaab, aaaaaac etc) will take much less time than if you throw capitals and symbols into the equation.

Using real words is asking for it, tbh.

entirely depends on what the password is for
if its like paypal or anything where the attacker can get money or something of worth then yes
i doubt anyones going to want access to your social networking accounts unless they have a specific reason

also don't forget they need to know your email/username before they can even try bruteforcing

its a good idea to have strong passwords tho
