I'm guilty of doing that.
Don't think there's much wrong with doing EQ adjustments as the tunes going along. The tune's are going to sound different in each venue/system so you might as well try and adjust.

I know what you mean tho the guys who are twiddling non-stop for the whole set.

some better than others.

End of thread.
Its not really about Djing but improving mixing in general, I mean there is a reason people like oneman get booked and Im not for example right ?
Same way yeah anyone can drive but can you drive in a F1 car? I can ride a BMX arguably better than anyone else on the forum, but if you picked up a bike and wanted to learn and I said
"oh just roll around everyday with no idea what you are doing and watch a few BMX videos and youll have it down in a fortnight" you be abit :corntard:
It does not really help in understanding the mechanics of it, well at least to me.

I mean the EQs must matter to a degree, if they didnt you wouldnt need em but for a long time I didnt shut the bass on the second tune off but put it at like 60%, prio to that I didnt even understand what the EQs did at all, prio to that I didnt even understand how songs that could sound fast would be BPM slow and so on (we are talking 5 years ago at this point)
This knowledge when you come from having none does not fall out of the sky if you dont have people around you that can teach and explain, if you get me

he gets booked because at the start of his career he was with the right people at the right time

honestly you'll reach a point with DJn (well you might) where you're pulling of a mix that is just as fluid as those you aspire to.

there's literary no secrets of making yourself a better DJ than just practising..

know your songs, know your mixer, keep it tight

that's literally all there is to it. you control the output, so if you wanna knock a mid or hi down, then do it! if it sounds good to you then that's the point. you are the DJ.

this was helpful, tried mixing everything to first kick tonight ignoring intros, repeating ones that fucked up, went fucking sick pretty much everything syncing, need eq to really get the difference

don't know why i spent so long trying to mix everything by the first drop

edit: i am actually still totally fucked if it's not an emphasised snare on the third, something like kode9 bad or clicky pev tunes are nightmares

Just keep at it, you'll get better in no time. It helps to dance while you mix, or at least get some sort of time keeping movement going, even if its just tapping your foot.

Sounds cheesy but just have fun with it, best way to get good at anything really. Try not to stress and over think the act of mixing too much.
