suspension of disbelief

must get harder as you get much older
There's VERY few films anywhere near the JP on sfx, even to this day. Even the CGI bits of the original JP look better than most stuff now days.

I dunno, shit with physical sets/effects just look better. Case in point, 2001 & Blade Runner are both amazing looking films, filmed in the 60's and late 70's/early 80's respectively, and they're still two of the best looking films I've ever seen. For all the advances of CGI, a lot of things look very lazy imo.

I think the reason why the original JP still looks awesome today is because they perfectly combined CGI with physical sets. As far as I remember a real model of the T-Rex was used in some scenes, probably the close-ups. That's why it looked so realistic.
I've also just found out that the CGI used in the Jurassic World trailer was put together only for the purposes of the trailer and that the effects are supposed to be much better in the movie. That's coming from the special FX guy.

What the fuck was the point even in the skiing bit too? Just felt so out of place tonally and pacing wise. Christopher Nolan these days in general seems to be "intelligent" films for idiots.

Conversely, I really enjoyed Inception and thought the soundtrack was one of Hans Zimmers best. I'm not sure about all the over hyped 'arthouse for the masses', but I don't think anyone else is making contemporary Blockbuster films with as much spectacle and thought behind them. I also loved Insterstellar.
Honestly Hans Zimmer is mad corny most of the time and the odd times he does something nice it's pretty much always plagiarized from someone else (True Romance for example.

Third Batman was a fucking mess. Got so caught up being "serious Batman" it forgot how to actually make a watchable film

Also the CGI thing is a valid complaint. Soronery you are chatting shit. Compare the first Jurassic Park. It used physical models for presence in the scenes that needed it and bits of CGI where necessary for the scenes where it was the only option and where it would be convincing. With this it's so much CGI it just stands out a fucking mile. When everything becomes CGI you start feeling like you're watching a videogame, nothing has any impact and the actors literally have nothing to react to and there's nowhere for it to hide. You're stuck going "none of this is happening". At least with a crap practical effect you're still actually seeing people acting around them on the set. CGI should be a garnish on a film that makes it more effective when needed, Overuse of it is therefore is like attempting to drink a whole bottle of vinegar on it's own.
