isn't it just. it's a really sneering way of describing fun music. doesn't do much for me but like someone else said, horses for coursesas a side note, the term 'clownstep' is one of the most ridiculous music terms ever created and it's usage should be banned.
tunes are getting clowny
never thought wobble killed drum n bass, it was the ridiculous amount of soaring synths and peeeeooowwwww zxzzzzzzzzzzowowowowowowapp sounds over the top of the drums and bass. it all got a bit over produced

I thought it was one of those terms like 'queer' or 'impressionist' or 'handbag house' or 'thug' that started off being dismissive but got reclaimed as a 'fuck you, I like it, and I like that you don't like it' term.pk- wrote:isn't it just. it's a really sneering way of describing fun music. doesn't do much for me but like someone else said, horses for coursesas a side note, the term 'clownstep' is one of the most ridiculous music terms ever created and it's usage should be banned.
I don't think it makes sense to talk about what 'killed' dnb when there's clearly still shedloads of people buying it or raving to it. It's more about what made it change in such a way that a lot of people who used to love it are now bored shitless with a lot of it. That said I personally would hate the splitting up and dividing of the dubstep scene, because part of what I love about dubstep is that at its best it's deep and danceable / moody and fun, and I wouldn't want to have to choose one or the other because one lot of people are sitting over here saying 'that tune's boring and different sounding, where's the wobble?' while the other lot are over there saying 'what do you want to dance and have fun for, we're playing deep tunes here, sit in the corner and cry like the rest of us.'
OTOH, I'm not sure that if you shout at anyone who names a subgenre then it'll automatically keep everything together. You could just end up with a scene that's still divided but everyone just uses circumlocutions and euphemisms to avoid mentioning it.
Big cheesy wobblers are great. Fuck with cockney thug at your peril. I just wouldn't want to hear nothing else all night.perkalerk215 wrote:i like a good mix of everything. theres enough to go around for every taste i think. i say let it keep coming...as long as theres even more other stuff. its fun to dance to and its not half bad. really.
Why is Clownstep a bad word exactly? I thought it was spot on; and it summed up the type of tune perfectly.
It was around that time that my interest in that music began to wane. Having seen what happend to dnb, it's not that ludicrous to think it might eventually happen to dubstep. I don't believe it's right to just brush these things under the carpet. Let's just heed the lessons dnb taught us and embrace dubstep as a whole - with all its rough edges, its wobbles, its diverstiy, its seriousness and its fun, let's accept it for what it is and let's grow together...
It's kind of like a beautiful woman you marry who then puts on a few pounds and starts to wobble when you shag her. Five years later, she might not be quite the picture you saw when you met her, but you love her for everythig else she gives you...
WHAT THE FUCK AM I ON ABOUT? I'M OFF HOME.

jeez- seems like nobody can have an opinion on this board without getting flamed. haha this is a forum! made for discussion on a topic! not a "suck everyones dick so everyones happy board" chill out i like 90 percent of the dubstep out there was just temporarily peeved with a particular mix with all these crazy ass tunes that didnt even sound like music. just twacked out synths to a beat.
with that said:
I LOVE YOU ALL KEEP DOIN YOUR THING- MAKE WHAT YOU LOVE. LISTEN TO WHAT YOU LOVE. BUY WHAT YOU LOVE.
but seriously what we really need to worry about is....

as long as the wobbly dubstep comes at me at a slow pace like 2 or 3 release per month and no 230 releases a week.. im a happy man..

sometimes I do forget that Pendululm just sold 200,000 units of their lp
Concorde Dawn went Platinum in their home country
High Contrast and the Hospital crew are selling bucketloads
Calibre's still selling lots
and a whole bunch of artists/labels are still doing really well...
wether it's my/your cup of tea or not.
It's just a very different music scene now from the one I grew up in many years ago.
but I guess this should all be in a completely different thread altogether.
Life is like a box of chocolates.
It gets stale after a while....

Finally someone who agrees with me...
I like the term clownstep... it describes some fun tunes...
why does that have to be a negative thing?
just cos a lot of clownstep dnb is now shit and some dubstep is a little dry in this area doesn't mean it's a death sentance!

i like wobble bass
there. i said it.
what is it about adding an lfo to your bassline that makes people all uppity.
you could say it's played out. but then, you could say snare drums are played out 2. i remember d'n'b fans getting all snooty about wobble bass back in the early 2000's but i don't remember that attitude saving d'n'b.
it was the reece, not the wobble that killed d'n'b for me.
