i seriously DON'T get sick this often. it's just been a really rough month. resistance was down due to work stress, and once i lost the work stress, the germs just took over for a while.municiple wrote:Damn, Shiva. You get sick like I seem to travel - too much. You need to get on the echinacea, coldeez, green tea tip. Healthy vibes to ya.
i dunno if i want to be around all you germy people. i think that's the problem.

I will post pics tonight.. I am going to sound like a cranky old man (and I am), I think Bass Goes Boom has outgrown Lava. Way too many people in the club and the sound was not loud enough to overcome the "crowd noise". It got to the point where I was fighting someone to just stand in place and enjoy the set. Then hearing two girls talk about everyday bullshit right next to the speaker? Disappointing.

man not to sound cranky either because I know you are entitled to your opinion...
but the vibe there is always running... yes it gets packed... there wasn't a queue last night so it was just at capacity. The drum and bass nights are exactly the same way. A full club is a welcome sight. Its good all the way around... less bar staff... more tips... more liquor sales... intimate settings and proper tours.
I saw plenty of people on the dancefloor getting into it. I also saw equal amount of people including myself stopping to chat it up with friends about everday bullshit... because to be honest its a social event. Thats how it goes. As far as the aforementioned girls... shit I'm glad there were actually women out last night enjoying the sounds.
The sound was bent a bit from the DJ Funk show that happened last saturday but it was still up. Brian and Phil are taking the speakers out this week to get fixed. There was an issue during Grafik's set with the needle coming out of only one speaker but that got fixed.
Yes there are some downsides to any night and any club... but you've got to hand it to the club for actually paying and bringing the array of talent that we get into Chicago. At any other club, its going to come out of the promoters pockets not the club owners. And its hard enough to invest your hard earned cash to make a gamble on a new venue and etcera. Phil and Ty have both won and lost some on a lot of tours that roll through but they always come correct in bringing them to the listener.
So what I'd say is they probably welcome the feedback and I'm sure BGB will relay that to them. As a longtime supporter of the Bass By the Pound guys... I think you've got to cut them some slack.
I'm not denying that at some point the night will outgrow its space. Obviously the capacity is limited. But you've got to weigh in some of the pros with the cons in this situation.

Thanks to everyone that came out and made it the roadblock that it was. There actually was a line outside a few times throughout the night. Grafik and Djunya had sick sets to say the least and like always the vibes were thick. People keep sayin that BGB needs to be at different venue but that's just not gonna happen anytime soon. I personally love Lava and to see if packed like that proves that Dubstep is gettin a stronghold in Chicago. Maybe one day you'll see a show at Smartbar or Sonotheque but in the meantime we gotta take what we can get. See ya next month!

whoa....heavy night indeed. i totally agree with Entro. having been in the chicago scene for a good swatch of years now, there's a certain specialness to Lava that is very appealing to me. good drinks, good space, really great friends. but i can also see how newcomers could be turned off by the crowded tendencies of the BGB nights.

as far as outgrowing lava, sometimes it gets a little nutty in there, but isn't that the point? it may happen, who knows...but i have come to have quite a fondness for the place.
i love being able to drive up from indy, come in and have a bar staff that is totally cool, having a solid system (not the best, but certainly far from the worst) to hear great music on, and to see a buncha people who are gonna go nutty for the music.
to me, seeing a room packed and going off to this fantastic music is just the best there is.
big night for sure. i felt like death warmed over, but i think the bass rattled loose some lung muckles. djunya was FIYAH!
i am delirious, so that's all for now...
*edited to add* no fucking thanks to the drunk asshole who spilled her beer in monkey's laptop. grrrr...

Oh mate. If there's anything you need parts wise let a brother know.Sea Monkey wrote:![]()
Much respect to everyone involved in this night, I don't intend for you to get the wrong idea and think i am shitting on your party as I have enjoyed every last one attended. I feel it's great that the club was capacity and that the this scene is gaining momentum in Chicago. In that sense, I was making the comment that Lava may not be able to handle it in the future at it's current rate.
