nah it just the 4x4 scene is 95% made on reason, thats why its going down the pan.
I hate reason now. Please dont make 4x4 bassline on it. It all sounds the same.
Fl is ten times better! Any simple synth will do.

I think most music made these days sounds the same. everyone is making it on software and not really spending that much time working out how to do new stuff.
hardware has a much better sound I think and produces better results.

a) RTFM
b) Buy the software you use. I know a lot of independent developers who make good, affordable, innovative software but who are forced to keep working a day job and develop in their spare time because as soon as their apps get cracked the sales fall off to about zero (not to mention that they're losing a lot of sales as people don't even check them out because they can just dl cracked Steinberg / NI stuff). I can recommend a lot of good free or cheap software that will give you equally good results (particularly if you're not a synth programming wizard yet) if you want it. But while I'm not going to preach any more, that's all the help you're going to get from me until you're running a clean setup.

Nah, I think it's just that more people can get hold of software so you hear a lot more derivative crap made on it. Spending a couple of grand on h/w requires a certain commitment to the idea of making music and a certain willingness to work at it.
There's maybe a bit of difference in sound between good analogue hardware and software but that's not the difference between good music and shit music imo. Especially considering the possibilities of stuff like Reaktor, Max/MSP, physical modelling synths, granular synthesis, stupidly long chains of effects and easy resampling and so on, none of which are easy to replicate in hardware.
I guess the hardware interface is sometimes more inspiring to play with than clicking a mouse, though, which I think accounts for why a lot of people prefer it.

true yeh I agree. I do prefer the bigger/warm sound comign from analog stuff but most of it is down the people spending more time playing with them knob/buttons etc. I find making music with a mouse very boring and find it hard to get any feeling going with it.
Everyone downloads music now days (maybe not in Dubstep) so we dont get to hear that much music that is different imo.

Reaper is probably the best cheap sequencer - it's not free but if you can't afford $50 for a sequencer I'd be interested to know where you got a computer to run it on. And whether you ever go out, buy drinks, buy clothes or anything like that...
Synth1 is a good simple free VA synth. Triangle 2, Minimogue VA, Oatmeal are some others that spring to mind.
Here's a useful KvR thread:

Alternatively, pick up a copy of Computer Music, which I think comes with enough free software (including a sequencer) to get you started...
