Crystal is great, if confusing at first.cixxxj wrote:Almost all of these one but I mention the freeware awesome Crystal
Speaking of freeware, I keep being amazed at what a variety of sounds I can get out of Synth1:

(Actually, that's a slightly newer version than the one I use.) It's really simple but I think that's forced me to try working with stuff I wouldn't on a 3 oscillator 2 filter glow-up-your-arse super authentic VA - I've recently been playing around with a combination of synced noise and FM to get mental industrial sounds out of it. It's nice for simple bass sounds too.
just looking at thort makes me dizzy haha.
Big up to the +Zeta massive

muon Tau is nice. highly recommend it for subs.
Can use some external processing though...
Crystal 2 is good but I don't know if I find it as useful as I once did.
I use a lot of free shit.
but for commercial plugs I swear by Z3ta and Massive as fat fat synths.
Massive is especially fun to use.
I also like using free stuff and running it through camel space to blow up and complicate the signal chain for some good ol fashioned fun.
Lately i've been putting out simpler sounds from the synths and then splitting slicing chopping processing recombining into groups resplitting refiltering etc, or simply layering dissimilar sounds filtered in to different freqs in a way that makes them sound unified. Can use some simpler sounds and get a nice complex feel. Combine into group post processing and lightly compress together.
It's fun to work in synths like massive, but other than that, I like to take the sound design outside of the synths once I've got that sound that does what I'm looking for. combine with other synths etc for more complex textures. Iunno. I'm no prostar. just where i'm at.
camel space deserves special notice as a good extension to basically any simple/free sound generator. it's wild fun to work in. the randomize button is always fun if you are stuck. click it a few times and you might get some ideas.
