TOX(sic.) wrote:I never said i want the genre to change, but does that mean i should be exposed to three months of 15 basic tunes, and 300 variations on that theme? From what i can gather dubstep IS meant to be this constantly evolving, genre-spanning movement (thats what the producers say), yet i'm being told otherwise.

Just my opinion.
It is that constantly evolving genre, but what you have to realise is the producers can't just sit down, make a tune, bang it out on radios, get it pressed, play it at nights and then get large runs done within a week, man. Everything takes time to develop and grow, things need careful nurturing, especially art and music. Revisit this thread in a year and I think you'll have changed your mind a great deal.

Oh and also, if you have a phase of dubstep-disillusionment, go and have a little explore through the roots of it! Go back a few years, add that garagey swing again and...well ill be fuckin' dancing anyway :D

i agree with some of the comments, but i still feel dubstep has plenty more too offer, its about finding new styles and techniques of bringing beats together to form a 'sound'. Tunes like Quest-Stand... does that sound generic? Never! I agree, many producers add to many wobbles but thats production... its how that wobble is orgmentated into a beat which makes 'wobble' special. [/quote]

I havn't caught Mary Anne Hobbs DJ but im an avid listener of her show and she is probably the last person you can accuse of playing generic music.
Her Radio 1 show is ridiculously eclectic.
From what I've seen, her show isn't representative of what her dj sets are like as far as eclecticism is concerned. Always found this to be a real shame, as I'd love to hear her mix the more upbeat stuff outside of dubstep on her show with the regular dubstep stuff she normally plays.

As far as this thread's topic is concerned:
M: I don’t like one type of person. The whole “dubstep” thing, I don’t think in that box.

L: Dubstep is a box now. It didn’t used to be a box, but it is now.

M: But that’s just natural because we put everything in boxes, man. But I just keep trying to fight that.

dubstep is a very varied thing with loads of un titled (thank fuck) little spin off sounds/scenes

Coki doesnt sound anything like Peverelist which doesnt sound anything like Plastician which doesnt sound anything like Loefah

thats WHY I like it

Nobody else in dubstep sounds anything like Coki or even tries to ever make anything that sounds remotely like something by Coki

THAT'S why I likes it

if i wasn't so tired, i'd make a joke about how everyone's now imitating my style (bottom of previous page) and how this thread is getting generic. but i had 5h sleep last night and am only going to get about 4h tonight (if i'm lucky) to go to 'dam tomorrow, so.

all music is for the most part dull as fuck

theres loads of it though so there is a lot of good stuff

and its such a varied scene as well....shackleton doesn't sound anything like rusko & gravious doesn't sound anything like n-type

its so pointless to start threads like these but then i think its healthy we have some sort of debate

otherwise we may have a dub pendulum on our hands:)

as dubbloke said listen to a wider selection of music

what may have happened with the rinse shows was you heard the new talent slots....what i find with it is you hear 1 amazing tune by someone and 5 average ones each show..i like waiting for that one awesome tune

for instance during the distance show i was wowed by the cardopusher tune he played last in feb i think

when i get bored of the dred vibes of D i listen to some psych folk :D

Its not just coki who doesnt sound like anyone else either imo, I dont think any 2 dubstep producers sound the same and i dont think dubstep will go the way say drum and bass has gone etc... maybe thats wishful thinking but thats where im at.
