how come more conservative with the programming, you think? to attract a different crowd, or has it just got more commercial...?Blip wrote:Because programmming of Sónar Day is getting less and less adventurous. Maybe they are trying to reach a balance: less "weirdness" during the day, a little bit more at night.
Rachel, your comments about racism in Spain. Ellaborate?
re: elaboration - what i said above, plus a whole lot of 'la morena/puta' shouting and general unpleasantness. by no means everyone, but at least one in 4. which is a lot 2 many. not a problem in sonar itself, just out and abt in barca.

only managed to reach the Friday night... but bloody hell I don't think I've brocked so hard in my life... and Flying Lotus - jesus christ, words are not enough. That blokes got too much energy to contend with.
Definitely getting my weekend pass next year for Sonar by Day, really rather gutted I missed some class acts in the day.

Bit more conservative during the day, bit less during the night, I would say. I don't think they worried about being commercial or attracting a different crowd, they don't need to. Actually, they do a damn good job filling up the huge Sónar Night venue without booking a Tiesto.rachel wrote:

Regarding the racist unpleasantness, I won't argue with your experience here, if it happened, it happened and that sucks. But it sounds patronising and empty to say "Spain, Spain, sort out your racist ways", no?
i thought that, actually - the night venue is massive but still filled right up without an obvious 'act for the masses'. the vibe of the whole thing is spot on generally - no wrenching cash out of you at every opp a la english festivals (exhibit a: free bumper cars), and less of the gurning/puking on yr shoes/having a punch-up english sort too.Blip wrote:Bit more conservative during the day, bit less during the night, I would say. no i don't think it sounds patronising (and i'm a bit confused by 'empty', tbh). having endured what my mate did, when all she'd done is gone to the place and spent her money, i'd say it was reserved in the extreme. other than naming all the ppl responsible individually - and i was slightly more inclined to punch them than enquire of their personal details - i'm not sure how else i could have put it. when barca, as a big, allegedly cosmopolitan spanish city goes on like that, i think it's reasonable to assume that it's a societal problem that might need some looking at. not sure this thread is the place for a big discussion on it, but that's the impression i came away with.
Real sorry to hear about this - I take back the remarks about melodrama
Perhaps you should get in contact with these people

We should close this issue now - the thread is all about celebrating all that was positive about a great night's music and people wanna hear about that

I got to say the way some of these guys have tried to par off SD5 is disgusting.Saxenhammer wrote:big ups SD5 for telling it like it is.
He's giving an honest and completley valid opinion which I know for a fact many many people hold both listeners and big artists this this scene.
It makes me cringe to see the way people are jumping to the defense of a DJ who can't mix, plays generic tracks, and charges extortionate rates. Why? Whats she done to deserve your undying loyalty? Hosted a show on BBC Radio One? If she really cared for Dubstep she'd recognize the importance of promoting its DJ's and producers and push for a Dubstep show on radio 1 hosted by a REAL (yeah I said it) DJ.
Ask her how much she charges for her so called DJ Sets and then defend her with the same tenacity that you have here. But SD5 knows the levels and big up him for telling it how it is.
MAH learn to mix, buy some records - you playing tunes which were out ON VINYL, from a CD shows that you don't even invest any of the money you make off this scene back into it anyway. Jumping round the decks and waving your arms in the air is not cutting it. Theres plenty of DJ's who sat in their bedrooms for 4/5 years learning and mastering their craft. Why can't you do the same?

Ha ha ha ha Hobbsy, are you not supporting the scene? What i think you should do is forget EVERY thing everybody else thinks you have done for the scene since 2005 and just play drifterman and his mates tunes all day!
Also jumping about behind the decks when you DJ is not cool! what you should do to be rated as cool is to look moody with glazed eyes and a spliff in your mouth and have a red, gold and green T shirt on.
Just wondering, does anybody know what the correct dress code for "Dubstep" is and were i can find all the rest of the Dubstep rules please?
I think some times people think too deep into what other people are doing and forgot to think about their own business! if you are were you want to be in life then is all good, if not get on with what YOU are doing bruv!

Don't get confused.
I'm not watching anyone too hard. But I'm listening, very hard, at every rave I go to. When I pay my money to go and listen to a DJ, I expect a certain level of quality. If I wanted to watch a female jump around waving her arms I'd go strip club or get some slosh to do it for me in my front room with a Heny G set in the CD player..
I don't pass my tunes to DJ's who can't mix anyway. Thats why moretime I don't even DJ much unless I'm confident that I'll be able to give the people a good set.
