I don't use it (yet), but like Plasticman says, it kind of works, unfortunately! Regardless of poor design / craporate involvement.

So - let's list some alternatives eh?

Shonky & metalboxproducts, how do you find soundclick, for instance?

Plasticman wrote:His exact reasons for disliking myspace was the fact it is so easy for people to fake on it.
They have to change the security on myspace or it'll just turn into a breeding ground for scammers, fraudsters and paedos.

The most obvious alternative would be to just create your own page.

Ha. Yes of course. But myspace allows you to plug in instantly to a large network of like-minded artist and fans. It's like hyper accelerated networking. And also it's so big that if someone is looking for info or contact details for an artist they will probably have a look on myspace right? In essence it's not a bad idea, that's why it is popular.

Also a lot of people will consider setting up their own website to be beyond their technical ability.

Shit, I sound like an advert for this damn'd ting!

All this talk about Murdoch is jokes. People like him run a LOT of shit.

If your not using myspace for that reason, then you should sell your computer, move into a Giant Redwood and start speaking bird.

Damm hippys.

As for debate about big corporations owning/developing/shaping the technology we all use - well, for many things that's the case, but it doesn't mean you can't get some piss-cheap/free webspace, learn some html and get your music out there off your own back while avoiding supplying Newscorp with an interactive map of your aquaintances, activities and interests.

They might be garnering that information to target you with advertising now but if that's all their database is going to get used for in the future (and I don't just mean by Newscorp) then my cock's a cuckoo.
