really? eydea and paul barman are way better choices than lil wayne

barman is good for a laugh and eydea and abilities is refreshing comapred to waynes recycled b.s.

and incidentally to those who think im some how confused with what hip hop and rap is ask yurself this question:

whens the last time yu saw a "rap" awards show?

and at these popular "hip hop" awards show yu see nowadays how many true hip hop artists do yu see getting awards?

even the hip hop honours shows are for rap artsits

and wtf does the word "jah" have to do with anything

all i was pointing out was how wack most if not all rap artists with "lil" in their names are, if yu look at the meaning of what jah is and what my stage name is sayin then yud see yur arguement is both irrelevant and stupid

bottom line is lil wayne is a dick and his musik is garbage if yu dont agree with me den i could care less

I like Immortal Technique.

It's hard to pick the best though.

The most respected outside of the industry is certainly Eminem... who even was even praised by a Nobel peace prize winning poet fairly recently.

are yu serious?

eminem is the most over rated emcee to date

heard anything new from him lately? could it be he has no more trashy drama goin on in his life to air out?

funny how the first caucasian emcee that comes out with the most convicing gimic comes thru the "rap game" and within a decade wins all the highest accolades for a rapper to date (there is nothing racist or bias about this comment, jus something i observed)

i guess rakim was garbage huh? and a the other o.g.'s from the hip hop genre,

surely mos def was more deserving of any awards over eminem

and dont get me started on eminem handling tupac's shtuff,.......i seriously doubt that he was the best choice to know what tupac was trying to convey thru his tunes,.....ah man this thread frustrates me

taste in music is, and will always be subjective. it doesnt matter who likes or dislikes what. listen to what you personally enjoy to listen to and allow others to do the same.

even if you cant fully resonate with what a particuluar artist/genre is doing or saying, respect the fact that others will and allow them to do so without mentally placing you and your tastes higher or lower than anyone else.

be humble.

 Yh, but Tupac was better @ Jazz Ballet. (Every dude I know that doesn't like rap music fucking LOVES Mos Def)

Wayne did more by kissing Birdman than ANY of those jansport rappers ( proper  I'm fuckin glad some people get it! ) Look how all u are gettin twisted knickers over it!

I love all these true schoolers repping 'hip-hop' without the slightest fucking clue! Do you know who Michael Holman was? Do you know what role PBS had in the formation of the so called 4 Elements?

Yes, Hip-Hop is a brand, just like Nike. Herc was real, Bam was real, Eddie Cheeba was real, DJ Flowers was real, DJ Hollywood was real, but, Hip-Hop is a fucking brandname.. inc. I am sorry that this is hard to accept, Sylvia Robinson knew this, Malcom Mclaren knew this, Futura 2000 knew this... why don't you?

All Artists must SHIFT PRODUCT if you do not SHIFT PRODUCT you are not an artist, you are a hobbyist with a trust fund - this is the REAL WORLD.

The Medium Is The Message.

People relate to Lil Wayne because he is the embodiment of the differance between what is & what could be. He stands for the intangible, the just out of reach, the limits of what is acceptable. Most of all he represents someone who is out of place & this is where he finds his audiance, amoungst those that feel that something is amiss but cannot put a name to it, let alone find a way to bridge that gap.

Wayne isn't a genius, he's just a man, tryna get by. Don't hate on his hustle cos you've got none.

mf doom is one of the only hip hop mcs i'll check without question these days

he's got insane writing skills. i can't think of another mc who manages to get so many rhymes to come out of one subject, or another mc who can get from rapping about rollercoasters to external hard drives in the space of two words, and with it still making sense and being funny.

i've heard enough lil wayne to know he isn't going to be on any decent retrospective hip hop compilations in the future.

im lovin how some people are talkin like they in it,

come to america or better yet come to ATL and then tell me who and what lil wayne is

yur all idiots if yu think lil wayne doesnt have a negative effect on the musik genre of "hip hop" or rap pr whatever yu wanna call it

yur argument is the same as saying i should resepk vamilla ice cause he found a hustle and blah blah blah

wayne was supposedly slanging dope to da kids in his hood that was his hustle

he shoulda kept his ignorant ass there if he was makin so much money and it was soooo lucrative

unless yu have seen the shit ive seen in the south and seen the effect of his garbage ass poison musik to not only the youth and to upcomin and aspiring artsits then i dont think yu should comment on this thread

step into my world where

gucci mane, youngy jeezy, soulja boy, and rick ross to name a few dominate the airwaves and all the youth is stuck in this perpetual club/hustling mentality 24/7

and al of a sudden yu got skills and talent for gettin fucked up as yu possibly can and sayin a bunch of foolishness n a dr. seus-esque nursery rhyme stlye while yu try and think of another "witty" rhyme and use adlibs and phrases like "aaaaayyyyyyyeeeeee" as filler

rap/hip hop is dumbing down black culture and makin them focus soley on materialism and waste their money so they "floss" wit big ass rims in their gutter ass ghettos instead of buying a house and land, and glorifes selling poison to the youths and the shameful part is, its not blacks deciding which tune comes out, its some imperialistic white man (record exec) who is tellin em what is hot and what is not

take all that as yu want but simple fact is its the truth which is why artist like mos def and talib will never be as hott as lil wayne cause he doesnt perpetuate all this ignorance

but ohhh its jus a hustle and im a hater

fuck off if yu wanna oversimplify musik like dat

Eminem > Mos Def? Um...wtf? seriously? you really suck that much??

i'll say again, Werd2Jah is pretty much dead on with what he says.

Other than the 'lil' part. I cant name a decent MC with 'Lil' in his name, but maybe there is one. Name has nothing to do with talent. If you suck, you suck whatever your name is. And the topic of this thread does in fact suck. Your opinion is irrelevant if it is to state otherwise. As someone else in this thread said...keep that bullshit out of my ears. and to go back to Dead Prez:

TURN OFF THAT BULLSHIT.
