here's some more chatter. this one over dubstep. first time this emcee rhymed over dubstep. had some mic problems in the beginning. doesn't really start spitting until around 16:30 and then again around 33:50 and 37:00.

Like anything else, there's a time and a place: that doesn't mean that the time is all the time and the place is everywhere though.
I can see the possibility of both an MC
and an accordion in some of my tunes, but they have to be right
for the song.
In general, I'm totally fucking sick of MC's because - like guitarists in the mid 90's - they're a dime a dozen and most of them suck greazy bung. Their suckiness is simply more conspicuous than most other instruments because they're broadcasting a literal meaning and not something musical, and doing it OVER the music that people came to see in the first place.
A lick here, a rhyme there, even something well said or worth saying? Sure. I can take it. But as said earlier,
some egotistical asshole who apparently LOVES his own voice won't shut the fuck up
...that's what the majority of MC'ing tends to sound like after a while, including Hip Hop and other genres. I mean, Pablo Picasso was the most arrogant S.O.B. artist who ever lived and even he didn't name check himself as much as any rapper getting play these days. They stand there and chat how clever their rhymes are (but never demonstrate it), how much clout they got, how much pussy they're swimming in, how well they get paid - and in the end, not only do I not care, but I know that he's probably 100% full of shit.
What's interesting, though, is that I definitely make exceptions for ragga/Jamaican/dancehall toasters, as do many others. Maybe it's the music's roots in those sounds, maybe it's the musicality of a guy chattin' patois well in that distinctive, melodic/rhythmic inflection... who knows. Spaceape is an exception for me exactly because he doesn't natter on about typical bafang MC topics - he goes against the grain thematically. I think he's sorta like a 21st century Mutabaruka.

Spaceape's an amazing dub poet.

Good on you. I would have done exactly the same. Too many people are just desperate to get on the decks.
I am sure I sound like a total hater in this thread but I actually have performed several times with an MC. I will only do it on my terms tho and when the MC and I have an understanding. If I say shut up then that's it. If they don't comply the xlr is getting pulled. And I have told MC's from other crews to sit down when they tried to do their thing over my set. You just have to stand up for yourself.
Yeh you got to be on good terms with the MC too. Dont want to moody skumbag who gets the hump when you refuse to rewind the record cos he has said so lol

re: BOOOOOOOOOOOOo!
Dammit, I knew I forgot something!
Heh.
Or my favorite Jungle MC-ism... "INSIDE THE RIDE!" (repeated 8,000 times over the course of an hour set.)
Even better: when they use the same rhymes more than once, especially when they use it 4, 5, 6 times or more... or nonsense patter when they can't think of a rhyme but want to sound like they're Das EFX - "biddabiddabiddabiddabiddabidda-bass, unh, yeah!"
Fook. I gotta stop coming back to this thread to hate.
