I don't think you should rule out stuff like this, cause if you like it someone else is bound to like it. The intro for midnight request line is pretty good for scratching and looping.

If you can scratch, yes!

If you cant, NO!

and if you can, knowing when enough is enough and when to let the tune play is essential.

If it sounds good, it IS good. One of my all time fave music quotes that catches all without all the subjective viewpoints and ideaologies clashing.

Its funny how people think that scratching is strictly a hip hop thing. Just coz it was that genre that spawned it, it doesn't mean that others scenes/sounds/genres can't take it and make it their own.

Take James Zabeila doing sick scratching over house and techno.

Take Craze, Fu, Hype and the likes scratching over D&B.

Sy over hardcore.

If someone's good at it, it can really add to a mix no matter what the genre.

deejaying is an artform

What is a dj if he cant scratch?

deejaying is scratching. juggling, mixing tight..

turning up pluging in a laptop an playin mp3s is not dj'ing. applying no thought into your set is not djing.

anyone can put a needle on a record, does that make them a dj. nah... its Skills that make a dj a dj. being able to bust out sharp cuts on the fly makes you a dj. being able to blend well and consistently makes you a dj.

If its well done, I have no problem with it. But it should not be used as exessive as in hip-hop.

I've been having this conversation with one of the other guys in Hellfire Machina.

Riddim scratching works really well with dubstep when done sparingly.
We have used small cuts in most of the tracks we have been writing, some blended into the atmos and some riddim bits too. I think it adds something to dubstep for sure.

From a djing persepctive I think that bringing turtablism into the equation opens up a world of possibilities that have yet to be fully explored in dubstep.

Personally, as many have already said I think when it is done well,
tunrtablism can work with any form of music.

Time - have you got any mixes online I could check out bruv?

Uh I think it depends entirely on the DJ in the mix...
BAD scrathing=BAD
Good scratching=GOOD
Regardless of style of music...
In all honesty I cant believe this is something thats even up for debate or that people are just dismissing on principle. I think its a dangerous thing in any movement when people start saying you just "Can't" do something.

Anyways, big up everyone pushing the sound
